  • Husqvarna Plans 200cc India Model

Husqvarna which was recently bought by KTM CEO Stefen Pierer said that the brand will slowly be amalgamated into KTM-Bajaj.

Bikes will be built along the same platform as in the Bajaj-KTM partnership. With the P200 being the entry level motorcycle, the Duke 200 being mid-level and Husqvarna being top of the line. The small Husky is expected to hit the market by 2015.

This multi-pronged stratergy is set to help bring costs down and production is expected to be at the Chakan plant of Bajaj's.

The Swedish company was not fitting into the plans of BMW, which concentrates on road-motorcycles. So even though KTM and Husqvarna are rival brands, BMW offered Husqy to KTM, with whom they share a good relationship. To avoid legal complexities the brand was sold to KTM CEO instead of selling it to KTM the company.

KTM CEO is positive that he can make a turn-around for Husqvarna by bringing synergy between Bajaj-KTM and Husqvarna. He also hopes that this trinity will be a powerhouse in the emerging markets around the world. With the market in Europe and North America shrinking, it is become imperative for companies to acquire and merge to remain financially viable.

good news only thing I wish is that Husqy should not loose its DNA, but I am sure with KTM and Baja it will be pouring some good bikes in our market with time....

well if they come with touring accessories it would be one hell of a tourer. And about the tank capacity, they have the after market tanks for these. Lets see if they come out with the whole accessories.

it is really very odd to see slick racing tyres on such a machine.

A Dual Purpose / Off Road bike with Slick Tyres makes a Supermoto for you.

^^ i meant to say that wouldn't dual purpose tyres be ideal for supermoto rather than slick tyres

Well, it certainly didn't lose its DNA when it was bought by KTM, despite the fact that both firms are somewhat similar. I don't expect the Husky to lose its identity by this too.
Stephen Peirer really regards & respects KTM's partnership with Bajaj, so this was obvious. And good relations aside, Husqvarna can definitely benefit from low cost Indian environment, so its good business sense too.

But that image confuses me too, like others here. It seems to be a Supermoto. It can't be a streetbike because it has no number plate holder, no front mudguard and no RVMs. Is it a planned street model's initial concept? Maybe stuff can be added later on to make it street legal?

This multi-pronged stratergy is set to help bring costs down and production is expected to be at the Chakan plant of Bajaj's.
                      There... That's the point.

So Bajaj goes the Hero way eh ? But with a twist. Hero uses the same engine in HF-Dawn, Splendor Pro and Passion Pro all of which are at different price points and are different brands. Husqvarna-KTM-Bajaj alliance now does the same thing but with entirely different companies using the same platform.

When you replace the (usually) bigger front wheel of a Dual Purpose motorcycle and replace them with equal sized wheels (normally 17") and replace the dual purpose tyres with slick road tyres.. you get a Supermoto motorcycle.

What else do you think is a Supermoto..??

representing Super Moto hence seeing the slick tires and its going to be a Motard bike on road.. that bike is SICK!!!

There is a lot of difference between what Bajaj is doing in comparision to Hero. Bajaj puts out a completely different set of bikes with same platform. If you look at Pulsar/Duke, what do they share? bottom half of engine/monoshock and some other bits. Even chasis is different, there is a lot of difference in the way they ride and the way they are tuned. But Hero on the other hand puts out exactly same engine in different clothes, without any difference. I do understand it's a 100 cc and there isn't much space for significant change. But, still they sell the same bike (engine/chasis/suspension) at different price points using different styling.
