  • 75% recalled CBR 250s have been completed succesfully

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) said that out of 11500 CBR 250 Standard bikes that had been recalled, 75% have been successfully repaired and replaced. The bikes had been originally been recalled for a faulty brake system. This recall of course was not for the ABS version of the bike.

The company intends to attend to the remaining 25% at the earliest.

    Honda's Press Release -

"successfully completed the voluntary market action on 75 percent units of the suspected lot of CBR 250R's in a short span of four months".
"This recall is applicable for 11,500 units of CBR 250R Standard variant manufactured in India between March 2011 and September 2012,"
The defect reduced the effectiveness of the Front Brake. In November 2012, the recall had been announced. Vehicles were repaired free of cost, irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle.

Those who are from the remaining 25%, get your CBR 250s checked and repaired at the earliest.

      75% of 11500 = 8625 bikes in 6 months = appx 1435 bikes per month, across India.

That's a very low turnout for what has been highlighted as a critical issue.
Either Honda's connect with it's customers has been very poor, or the customers are really, really ignorant and are not bothered to care for their rides!
Ideally, all the defective bikes should have been attended to in one quarter itself, instead of 2 quarters.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

I think its the customers who have responded poorly to this. I don't think every single one of them sent back their bikes.

Replacement/repair of 75% of 11500 CBRs in 4months, not 6months. Still quote a low figure.

Dont know why mostly JAPANESE make this.
Sorry for the offtopic, But TOYOTA too had a recall for Innovas & Fortuners.
Over 70,000 cars were recalled for a manufacturing defect - Over responsive Braking & wrong mounted camber bolts.

                  Thats True buddy.
Atleast they bother. Bajaj's quality is getting worse day by day.
Out of every 10 Pulsar 220's , 3 to 4 will surely have an oil leak from the head within 2 months.
My home is near a Bajaj service center & i frequently have a discussion with the service head. He tells me that many new bikes come for oil leakage problem, gearbox issues (mostly gearshaft replacements), packings messed etc.

It's not just the Japs - the Europeans and Americans too acknowledge defects in manufacturing and fix them voluntarily. GM, Chevy, Fiat, BMW and many others recall thousands of cars every year. It's only the Indian manufacturers who choose to ignore potential issues until they become a problem for the consumer (if it ain't broke, why fix it?)

                        I owned a Pulsar-180 Ug4 for 18 months, then sold it off.
Reason : Gearbox problem, which was not solved even after 5 attempts in showroom & 3 attempts outside.
I was full of anger & anxiety at that time.
Gears used to get stuck, changed the gearshaft 3 times, gears one time, then i got MAD, i sold my bike.

If you ask me I think 75% is a quite good no. if you consider the conditions though I would like to know how they came to the exact no. 75% not 74 or 74.XXX.

Japanese are normally known for their impeccable quality standards at an affordable price - just that the equations change a bit when they are assembled here.

I would say, three cheers to Honda for acknolwedging the issue and correcting it. Like someone said, never expected from an Indian manufacturer. My friend's ZMA, 4 years old now, still has stiff gearshift and he has learnt to live with it!

My Pulsar 220 dtsi had an electric part changed under warranty. Can't remember what. Bajaj would just change it at the first or any other service, without even telling the customer. I happen to get my bike serviced only infront of me, so I came to know. A lot of other 220 owners can vouch for the claim that Bajaj changed this part without a single consumer complaint.

So Honda ain't the only Indian manufacturer to change parts!
