  • Yamaha establishes 5th R&D Globally in India

Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd had established a new Integrated Development Centre in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh. This launch follows the initiative that the company has undertaken in the ASEAN region.

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has established Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt. Ltd. (YMRI)Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO & Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. -

Mr. Toshikazu Kobayashi, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt. Ltd. -

Future plans include the setup of the new Chennai site to develop models intended for the Indian market and Global market, based on model platforms developed in Japan.

The motorcycle market in India has been growing constantly in recent years owing to political and economic stability and financial growth - the market scale reached around 14 million units in 2012 overtaking China to become the world's largest motorcycle market. The market is expected to grow further, reaching 16 million units in 2015.

In this environment, Yamaha has been aggressively launching models in the premium and deluxe segment and breaking into the rapidly growing scooter category, achieving domestic sales of 350,000 units in 2012. Based on the new medium-term plan commencing this year, Yamaha will continue to launch products in the scooter category while expanding the sales network, and constructing and launching the second factory in Chennai (2014). Sales of 500,000 units in 2013, and 1 million units in 2015 are expected.

    Topic Approved.

Good move by Yamaha. Not the most posh of locations, but as they say, the results justify the means. But how low cost can a motorcycle actually get? Let's see.

We wish Yamaha all the best, and hope that new motorcycles get launched across different categories. The lower capacity ones to sustain Yamaha, and higher capacity ones (non imports) to sustain us, the bikers.

On the lines of this topic, some more news :

Yamaha to develop bike priced under Rs 30,000 in India - NDTVProfit.com

Looks like India is heading for a 'scoot revolution' in the next few years. I'd also like to see some of them step-thru's (for those who remember the hero honda street)..

PS: mods can either change the topic of this thread to include the above piece of news or create a new thread if necessary.
