3 cylinders is fine, but I am still not sure if I understood the crossplane concept - can it be explained in a simpler sense?

I did go through the link Monk...but wanted a simpler explanation. Not very physics-minded
Couldn't grasp the very basics of the operation...

Trying my best to explain it simpler.

Four pistons, with two pistons moving in unison. Conventional system makes two pistons to be at the top and two pistons at the bottom of the stroke at the same instant. Then all four pistons moving; with two pairs moving in opposite directions. This complete stationery position and then extremely fast movement in very short time disturbs the balance of the engine and therefore bike, especially when moving very fast in a corner. The way MotoGP riders do.

Now the crossplane did away with this problem by ensuring that none of the four pistons are moving together. So one piston is at the bottom of the stroke, another piston is at the top of the stroke, the third is in the middle moving from up to down and the fourth is also in the middle but moving from down to up. Thus the there are always two pistons in motion at the centre while two at complete rest. The result being that the engine stays balanced and does not throw the bike off balance either. Especially felt when at full lean and on the gas.

I hope the simple english will help to understand it better. If not I hope someone better comes along and explains it properly

it is basically the firing order and the points at which connecting rods are connected to crankshaft, so that power delivery is smooth.

Its basically done to crossout/cancel/neglect the inertial torque produced by crankshaft. So why cant it be done with two cylinders?? It can be done.and wit 3 cylinders the middle one will be heavier(i mean crankshaft) than the other two to cross out the inertial torque produced by them. Guess am right
