Last Autumn Yamaha had showcased its concept three cylinder crossplane at the various auto shows. Now the engine has been named the CP3. This has been established from documents lodged in the trademark offices of Europe, Australia and America. Along with this the terms CP2 and CP4 have also been applied for.
Of course a three cylinder or two cylinder engine cannot be a crossplane engine in its truest sense. Because you need four cylinders to make a cross plane system work. But it is derived out of the crossplane technology. The company has not yet mentioned which model/motorcycle will eventually get these engines.
