we can have exotic CKD BMWs,audis and porches but not even a CKD yamaha R6?..its like the question-which came first,the chicken or egg?companies say no market,customers say no products;they forget theoretically there was no market for a 150cc bike costing above a lakh,but r15 has a cult-following status today,same for cb250r.duke 200 and ninja 300.many guys i know would have bought r6 or any 600cc bikes instead of their hatchbacks.also while i am at it let me complain some more,please dont release "new" ray-z and SRZs and then release superbikes at this cost,middle class people feel heart broken.Agar aap Jaag Rahe hai to So Jaiye kyonki raat ke sannate ko chirti aa rahi hai SANSANI...star news par har raat aath baje

I believe Yamaha can do a lot regarding the bigger performance bike of India:
1. Just take a 2005 R6 and make a new bike based on it for Indian production. Something like "R6 Z" or "R6 Indian edition". (They have made an R6s before)
Tune it for road, and encourage custom culture (like with the R15, regearing, modification, etc.) R15's regearing was a good thought but a bike making 17 ps power does not have a wide scope for regearing. Try getting more custom parts later like R15 got.
2. Before producing it, they should just produce its fictional brochure, and ask customers for deposits of say, Rs. 10,000 each, just to judge actual public demand.
After judging demand, they can decide to produce the motorcycle for the people who deposited money... or not produce and return back the deposit money without interest.
This way, they can't complain about lack of demand. As they'll know the demand before production starts.
Of course, every such method has its own problems. But being businessmen, what is their role anyways? To change problems into opportunities, that' what. Let's hope Yamaha remembers their international parent, and takes us back to the RD 350 era, where we'll all be dominating the roads or just riding at the speed we want to.---

i am skeptical even Harley plans 10000 units/year by 2016.i see no harm in trying a watered down 600cc by the big three(yamaha,suzuki and honda)Agar aap Jaag Rahe hai to So Jaiye kyonki raat ke sannate ko chirti aa rahi hai SANSANI...star news par har raat aath baje

Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki have already brought their litre class and their reluctance to bring in a 600cc supersport is somewhat understandable. But what is Kawi doing? It hasn't launched the ZX10R here. They can easily get some sales by bringing in the ZX6R. There'd be zero competition and there'd be a decent number of buyers even if it's priced upto 8L OTR. The people who have given a skip to the ER6F/N650 as it's too tame would definitely consider the ZX. With the 2013 ZX-636, practicality is also pretty good as it is a lot more street focused (more comfortable, more low end torque) than its predecessors and I heard some reviewer saying that a 300-500 mile trip per day can be done on it without much problems.Last edited by pcgamer; 06-20-2013, 09:30 AM.

I had a chance to speak to one of the folks at Honda once... He said that The cost of a 600cc supersport is very close to a 1000cc superbike and there is a very limited number of people who can afford to spend that much money. Out of that small set of people, most will just spend 10% extra and just get the 1000cc thereby leaving no buyers for 600cc bikes. We have to understand that If the R1 is 15.6 L ex-showroom, there's very little chance that the R6 will be anything less that 13L.
Triumph remains our only real hope with the Daytona. Let's see how they price it here.Bajaj Pulsar 150 : 2004-2005

R1 = 14500 and R6 = 11500 in USD, so that's about 20% difference. You can pretty much multiply the dollar number by a factor of 110 to get the final Indian price in INR... Maintaining that proportion : R6 ends up being nearly 13 Lakhs.
For us, as consumers it's easy to say that companies don't care about Indian markets and they are being irrational when they say there is no demand, but we forget that Bringing a bike here doesn't just mean putting bikes in a box, shipping them here and selling them. The bikes have to get homologated, trainings need to be conducted for service personnel, motorcycle and spares inventory maintainance. It is a lot of expense and I completely understand why companies don't want to fully commit to it.
Harley Davisdon, for example, sells about 800 bikes per year right now, which tells you about the sort of market that exists for expensive motorcycles. If the Japanese manufactures introduce their entire portfolio in India, we are looking at annual sales that are in double digit numbers per model... All of it easily adds up and it's easy to see why they are relucatant.
