re: Yamaha India's 2013 CBU Prices: xBhp News

What Yamaha is doing is playin safe with the big boys. The price difference with the 600s and 1000s is comparitively less.that is making the 4 japs to rethink thier stratergy.Currently they are trying to go the way up from lower cc so as to create a brand image in the developing countries.Unless they can think of getting the 600s in ckd route and not cbu,not much can be done.Otherwise they may have to ingeniously design the engine for our market like what honda just did for the CBR500,making it the CBR400 to go head on with the Duke 390(the price may be nearly double)but still its a step forward recognising India is too a potential market for these big boys.

Thanks for this and how about the prices of out going stocks? Is there any revisions there?

Usually premium car sellers will give them away at huge discounts. Does the same apply to motorcycles?

        1. Just take a 2005 R6 and make a new bike based on it for Indian production. Something like "R6 Z" or "R6 Indian edition". (They have made an R6s before)
Tune it for road, and encourage custom culture (like with the R15, regearing, modification, etc.) R15's regearing was a good thought but a bike making 17 ps power does not have a wide scope for regearing. Try getting more custom parts later like R15 got.

        2. Before producing it, they should just produce its fictional brochure, and ask customers for deposits of say, Rs. 10,000 each, just to judge actual public demand.
After judging demand, they can decide to produce the motorcycle for the people who deposited money... or not produce and return back the deposit money without interest.

This way, they can't complain about lack of demand. As they'll know the demand before production starts.

Of course, every such method has its own problems. But being businessmen, what is their role anyways? To change problems into opportunities, that' what. Let's hope Yamaha remembers their international parent, and takes us back to the RD 350 era, where we'll all be dominating the roads or just riding at the speed we want to.

What you say is a good idea. However, one has calculate the production cost. By your theory, lets take an instance that the demand is for 10 motorcycles, the cost of production is higher than to produce 100 motorcycles. So, if this goes on and consumers do accept it, the demand rises and hence, the production has to rise too. if the production rises, the cost has to go down. The actual cost will only be attained if the production is at its optimal capacity. Do you think consumers will even take a chance to buy these products at sky rocketed prices usually higher than the actual value, just because they are in love with the brand or the product?

The testing cannot happen in the actual market and consumers if the concept that you say is virtual only.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          THE END

Yamaha should do a lot more than just sell bikes.

Everytime, I see that crappy Yamaha India facebook page, I get pissed off... they keep rotating pics of r15 or fz and use captions that has words "race", "thrill"

It disappoints me, that after selling a good track bike like r15 and then r15 v2, they do not want to take care of their customers with after market parts or racing events.
Can I find a race stand - No, ... yamaha jacket - No, levers - no, sprocket - no, anything - no.
Why is the red-white Limited Edition and priced 7k higher after it was sold in countless numbers? No idea.

KTM, for one is going the right way in engaging customers...doing track days.... and yamaha is only engaging wanna-be customers on facebook with pics... the kind of customers who will buy r15's and tashan on city traffic with no helmet.

And that's the same they do for R1 or FZ1 also.... tyre warmers - no, racing kit upgrade - no, anything - no.. just drive the bike around your house and show off.

I expect a lot more from my fav motoGP factory team company..... but they leave no stone unturned to disappoint me.

I think very soon the Indian biking scenario will see a big change and it will come from in-house. With the KTM-Bajaj leaving no stone unturned, soon we will see bigger bikes at lower costs. But the question remains - do we have the infrastructure to ride such bikes safely?

A lot of education and control is required.

In a nutshell these super bikes are expensive to own and maintain and for a manufacturer to introduce them into Indian market either the market should be mature with a decent sales of a few thousand a year or they should have loads of spare cash and have Indian bikers happiness as their motivation.
If anyone things Kawasaki is making any money out of N650 and N300 sales in India, they are just dreaming. It will take a long time for anyone to make profits in this category, may be 5-10 years from now at least.
