  • Hero Moto Corp's 5 new models in Kenya: xBhp News

Hero Moto Corp has begun operations in the African market, with the launch of 5 motorcycles in Kenya.

The highlight of the Kenyan entry, is the fact that the company has launched a motorcycle modified for the requirements of the African market. The Dawn is an entry level 100cc, which will be assembled at the first international assembly line of Hero.

Pawan Munjal, MD & CEO of Hero MotoCorp -

"This is a strategic market for us in our overall plan for the continent, which is why we are also starting our first Africa CKD assembly operations here. Dawn is the first modified bike from our portfolio to be launched in Africa. This is just the beginning...we are working on several other models for specific international markets,"
"We are also commencing our operations in Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast early next week,"
"Yes, we will soon go to Nigeria as well, where we will also have an assembly line, but I don't want to give out a specific timeline on that. For this fiscal (2013-14), our target is to clock about 300,000 units from our international business,"
Other than the ultra-low cost Dawn, the Splendor Pro, Hunk,Glamour, and Karizma are being launched in the Kenyan market.

Hero MotoCorp has roped in the well-known diversified business house of Kenya, RYCE East Africa, to bring its two-wheelers to the country. Under the alliance, Sameer Group, which is a part of RYCE East Africa, has been appointed as the authorised distributor of Hero MotoCorp range of two-wheelers in Kenya.

Hero MotoCorp will soon launch brand-building initiatives in Kenya with the English version of the iconic Hero anthem "Hum Main Hai Hero" (There's a Hero in Each of Us) which will be aired across radio stations - the most popular mode of mass communication in the country. There will also be brand-specific communications to establish Hero products in the country.

I am more worried about How Hero will manage abroad once they are no longer allowed to use the Honda Engine and the tech that goes with it.
