Here is from a Better / Official Publication (Zigwheels):

    Bajaj Launches XCD 135 DTS-Si !

(The bike looks chunkier in this particular pic)

Bajaj Auto today unveiled the first model of the six new launches scheduled for this year, the XCD 135 DTS-Si in New Delhi. This new model will play in the mid-level segment where buyers are looking for an upgrade from the 125cc segment and aspire something more exclusive and sporty instead of the humdrum 100-125cc commuters. Broadly the focus is on styling, features and providing more bang-for-the-buck to the average joe Indian biker.

The XCD 135 DTS-Si comes with an aerodynamically designed fuel tank coupled with digital instrumentation, LED tail lights, electric start and NITROX rear suspension. It will act as a catalyst to push the envelope of commuter motorcyclists towards higher displacement bikes. The 135cc powerplant uses the same DTS-Si techno-wizardry seen first time on the XCD 125 DTS-Si and then on the Platina 125 DTS-Si. The mill produces 11PS of power and incorporates a five-speed gearbox.

Bajaj Auto has been leading the market in the premium segment as well as the 100cc commuter bracket, but in the mid-level segment its arch rival, Hero Honda has been raking in numbers for a very long time. Bajaj Auto is geared up to turn tables in the mid-segment with three new launches starting with the XCD 135 DTS-Si. While the world grieved about the economic slump last year, significant development took place on the Indian two-wheeler front with bigwigs like Yamaha and Suzuki rolling out their international range of superbikes in India and also introducing India-bound models in the premium segment. However the premium segment leader Bajaj Auto has been lying dormant for the whole of 2008 except for the launch of the Discover 135 DTSi face-lift and the Platina 125 DTS-Si which was released in the final quarter of last year.

In 2009, Bajaj Auto will roll out six models out of which three, including the new XCD 135, will cater to the mid-segment while the remaining trio will play in the premium motorcycle category. Looks like the Pune-based giant is in power-band mode and it only makes things a lot better and exciting for us bikers.

Bajaj Auto Ltd. launched the all new sports commuter motorcycle, the Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si. Though meant for regular use this bike will be sporty both in its performance and in its styling. Inspired from the Bajaj Pulsar DTS-i, it looks and drives like a Pulsar-Junior.

Aimed at the customers in the value segment looking for a sporty alternative, it will have many first-in-class features like a 135cc DTS-Si engine, a 5 speed gear box, auto choke, gas filled Nitrox absorbers, digital speedometer and LED tail lamps. Other significant features include electric-start and front disc-brake.

With its 10.5 bhp engine, sporty styling, long feature-list and a price of approximately Rs. 45000 ex-showroom it will be a very compelling alternative to all lesser performing and conservatively styled 100cc motorcycles in the value segment.

Speaking on the launch Mr. S.Sridhar, CEO 2-Wheelers, Bajaj Auto said," This bike is the first of our three launches in the value segment. We already have a very strong position in the entry and the premium segment of the motorcycle market, and now we will have an extremely strong line-up in the value segment as well."

The Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si will be manufactured in Waluj. There are 5 colors and decal option available which the consumer can choose from.

Just view the pics on the blog and it yuks...in styling is not differ with old XCD..only LED tail and sticker job....

        and

Its not XCD Sprint since the bike shown in Auto Expo had 4 valve and this one has the same 2 valve powerplant.

On the official press release it is mentioned that there will be two more bike on the similar segment(value segment was the name given). So I guess XCD Sprint will be launched sometime this year only.

Auto choke is there in Platina 125.

Is that two completely new bikes or just an upgradation?
Will this XCD 135(non sprint) replace the existing XCD?
Is the Discover 135 doomed to have 4 gears till the end of time?

Sprint should be a completely new bike considering the 4 valve(Just a guess). Not sure about the second one.

No idea about the other two questions that you asked.I guess a Bajaj official will be a better person to answer that.I was expecting an answer in the press release itself but sadly that is missing.

                      Another review by Overdrive:

.. and a much clearer photo this time,

Bajaj Auto comes up as the first Indian bike maker to bust the credit crunch myth by launching the all-new XCD 135 DTS-Si. This is the company's first launch in the series of six new launches it has promised in the span of next six months. The new "sporty commuter" bike, as the press release suggests, is aimed at riders for whom style is as important as fuel efficiency. It also promises a bit of a punch on the performance front, the bike being powered by a new 135cc engine incorporating Bajaj's swirl induction tech first seen on the XCD 125.

I loved this part man! Bajaj is confusing the customers ...

It has Power commuter written all over it! The front set footpegs, 10.5 bhp, etc. point out towards it.

BTW a good additional choice for commuters no doubt!

The press releases don't mention anything about 4 valves.

With 10.6 Ps its obvious that the XCD 135 DTS-Si is meant to be a commuter oriented model. 4 valve per cylinder configuration usually accompanies a high revving engine.

I do not think the Sprint will be called XCD Sprint. The model shown in expo will be released as a new "Sprint 150 cc" (my guess based on talks on the autoblogs). I do not think Bajaj launch another 135cc bike.

expected (and still expecting) at least XCD 150 / Sprint 150 / All New Pulsar 150... guess the Discover 150 has been shelved. Looks like Bajaj is using this 135 range as a test bed for their yet to launch 150!
