Pawan Munjal is not intimidated by the assertions of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India that they will be No. 1 in India by 2015.
In April this year, Shinji Aoyama, Honda's Global Operating Officer for Motorcycle Business, had said that Honda was in a very good position to take the No. 1 spot from Hero by the year 2015, unlike 2020, what had earlier been predicted.
Pawan Munjal reacted to this statement recently, by saying that it is no joke to be No. 1 in a country as big as India and he is confident that Hero Moto Corp will continue to grow and retain the top tag.

In the last year Honda has been growing steadily while Hero has struggled to grow. HMC's sales fell by 2% last fiscal, while HMSI sales grew by 31%. Though the absolute difference in sales is still very large at 59.12 and 26 lakhs respectively.

"There are several projects spanning across existing and new platforms that are currently underway at our R&D centres both at Gurgaon and Dharuhera in Haryana. We have more than 400 engineers at our R&D division, out of which an overwhelming majority are young and highly-skilled personnel. They are all brimming with ideas and I have given them a carte-blanche to think out-ofthe-box and be innovative. We are also adding more engineers ,"
