the price of RE new models are too much for the quality of parts as well it does not feel like a quality stuff...
I cannot uderstand how can they even think of bringing such low quality products in the market...considering the high cost of the product
its just common sense which RE doesnt have...I test drove a tb350 and was not at all satisfied with the finish at that price point...

Speculation is high that the upcoming 500cc could very well be built in India (thanks to that spy-shot) and that HD has sourced local suppliers for various parts. If this is true, then it's fair to expect the on-road price to fall between 3-4 Lakhs. Their Superlow which is a CKD costs between 6.2 - 6.5Lakhs on road in Delhi, so a "Made in India" Harley with a smaller engine shouldn't cost more than 4 Lakhs.

Competition is always good for the customers. Look what competition did to Bajaj. I am not saying they have very high quality products, but the fact that they are working hard to get there is evident.

At the end of the day a better product from HD at a near price for which a RE retails will definitely make RE management sit up and take notice. Any day there will be more takers for a HD rather than a RE at a similar price point.

Why dont we conduct a poll here to see what riders prefer. That would be interesting.

I read some where RE has a new chasis design ready for production, I guess this is the kind of push they need to break their monopoly.

I have added a fairly straightforward poll at the top. Let's get polling!.... I didn't add any more options since I primarily would like to see what do people choose between the two brands given the situation.... And I may have overshot the price range of RE 500cc motorcycles :|

PS: The upcoming Continental GT from RE has a new chassis, though it's still fairly simple tabular frame.

Voted for the HD, though I own a classic.

I do feel its a worthy upgrade even though it's highly unlikely that it will be priced below 4 Lacs.

I do foresee a lot of people voting for the HD owing to just the price. But buying a Harley and keeping it running is whole different ball game and you will need to factor in the running costs. And definitely HD is only for those who can spend judiciously. The accessories market that HD opens to is hard for most of the guys to not get sucked into.

As far as GT 535 goes, I feel its a all new bike and will have completely different dynamics than their current portfolio. But its sign o good things from RE they are trying foray away from the Tourer image with the Cafe Racer .

When the cheapest Harley can start at around 6 ex-showroom, why cant a home grown 500 cc HD with higher localisation content start at 4?

it can. at 4, not at 2. also, given the rupee's journey to the bottom of the earth, expect any bike that has any foreign component to burn a bit more of your pocket.

I think we are talking about home grown HD. It will definitely have foreign components, however it remains to be seen how much localisation has been done. I too think anything below 4 is unrealistic unless HD pulls a rabbit out of the hat.

Irrespective of the specs a Beetle carries, it is an iconic brand for VW, even bigger than the more powerful cars and has been the face of VW for decades, unlike the upcoming 500cc from HD which is only meant to open more doors in the lower spectrum of American company's motorcycle market in India. HD will expect to generate numbers from this model unlike VW's strategy for the Beetle.

on a serious note....its not possible for HD to localize this bike more than 50%...so in any case it will attract duties upto some extant. that is why any thing in the range of 3.5 - 4 lacs will be a good price for HD's upcoming bike....

I feel the same about the price. HD will have to maintain a decent price gap with their Superlow model. They will try to make it easier for people to step into the Harley lifestyle through this model so they will have to price it well below their current cheapest offering.

Way to go HD, though not into it but I would definitely agree to the point that Harley is doing a fine job. I take the seat and wait for the action in the market. This is going to be interesting.
