Yamaha India is also hoping to achieve 10% market share in the next two years. Yamaha also hopes to export 30% of its India Production.

Hiroyuki Suzuki, India Yamaha Motor CEO and Managing Director -

"We are eyeing a production capacity of five million units by 2020. For that, we would require more manufacturing plants in the country,"
"We are studying at the moment. It will depend upon the Indian market conditions, how the Indian GDP grows but we believe that there is a huge potential here,"
"We are targeting a capacity of two million units by 2016. We plan to export 30 per cent of the total capacity."
"By 2016 we would like to have a combined market share of 10 per cent in bikes and scooter segments."
"Yamaha is strong in 150 cc segment today. We are focusing on the commuter segment, but at the same time we would like to introduce bikes above 150 cc in the future,"
"We are confident about the long-term growth potential of India. We expect the economy to start getting better by 2017. It is a high potential market for us,"
"We are targeting domestic sales of 4.6 lakh units and 2.1 lakh units in exports markets,"
Currently Yamaha India has two plants in India, one in Greater Noida and the other is in Faridabad. The total production capacity of these two plants is 10 lakh units.

Yamaha India has also postponed the setting up of a Rs 1500 crore new plant in Chennai by a year due to the economic slowdown.

what do they mean in future? I don't understand why they are taking such a long time to bring up a bike above the 150cc margin.. aren't Yamaha one of the bike giants?? why is it taking them such a long time now the market is flowing with higher than 200cc bikes...??

Because releasing a bike now would no longer give them any kind of early mover advantages. In fact, they (and Suzuki) are the only ones left to launch a >150 cc in India.
They can rather study the trend and decide if a 400cc would make more sense than 200/250/300 or their combinations. They have the capability. Its all about timing.

Moreover, >200 cc isn't meant for the normal desi commuter anyway. Even if we have commuters buying higher displacement bikes, their numbers are small. These bikes are taken by enthusiasts/people with money to spare and pose around.

^^ good point Divya.. Yamaha is getting really good profits by the bike present in the market (fz/r15/ray) and by the looks of it, they won't release any higher displacement bikes unless they think its really necessary.. Isn't this exactly what they did when they released R15v1 and the Fz.. And since then, they have been happy with their profits..
yamaha has the resources and even the bikes ready in other markets.. They just need the right time here and bang..
we all know, when they would release a 250cc or even 300/400cc, these babies are gonna be dead hot..

            Ride safe and have fun.

If this is the case, then why are the indian manufacturers like TVS and Hero being targeted often for not bringing in a 250cc bike?

Hero has announced that they are making a 250 with EBR.

TVS will bring in 250-500 cc bikes with BMW in 3-4 years time.

maybe because for trying to do so
we expect our home-players to step up.. maybe the reason could be this..

Because the truth is we got a lot of fanboys of yamaha .
Every new bike is compared to r15 . And they cry saying it doesnt handle like r15 ; and they never ask yamaha to produce 22 bhp or 250cc. Because they are happy with over 1 lakh 150cc shit that yamaha provide producing pathetic 17 bhp .

Eh.. but it is more of a track bike and hence the handling.. who expects the Royal Enfields to have a good handling/ top end/ pick up?? because it is not a track machine, but a Tourer.. but when it comes to a ZMA/ZMR people crib saying poor handling/ no top end/ pick up..

I still don't understand.. I would like to fight for it now pls yamaha.. give us Indians a 250cc bike which will fit in our budgets soooon plssss
