Hero Moto has further extended its partnership with Erik Buell, by appointing them the sole distributors of HMC bikes and scooters. This deal will come into effect from mid 2014.

Pawan Munjal, Hero managing director and CEO

EBR made the announcement about distributing Hero motorcycles last week at the American International Motorcycle Expo in Orlando, Fla., where it also unveiled a new street-legal sport bike at a price that competes with international manufacturers like Ducati.
Specific Hero models to be distributed by EBR and pricing details have yet to be determined, EBR said in a press release. Hero manufactures more than 6 million two-wheelers in India each year.

Ninja 250R is the preferred starter chic bike in USA, which we all know is just got replaced by Ninja 300R. My gated community's property assistant tells me that her favorite bike is Suzuki Katana 650cc. So, I'm not really sure what's Hero smoking here. They seem to love throwing around all sorts of news, without any products on the ground.

Maybe Mexico and nearby countries is the target. Who knows? After all, North America has countries apart from US/Canada too!

But, even I don't know what will HMCs current products do in these 2 countries! Maybe, brand building for upcoming products.

My Dear friend.. please read my post above.. there are more than just Americans in the USA who love to get bikes but they are out of budget the Chinese people ride mopeds there and I have seen them when I used to be in USA.. so I am just assuming these people might go for these bikes as they will be cheaper than the mopeds and offer a little better performance in compared to those.. I am just assuming that these are the targeted people out in the USA..

My friend in Columbia uses a Pulsar 180 and he asked for my advice before purchasing it. he is a Spaniard by the way (a school friend of mine when I was in NY)..

he was asking for my suggestion again about going for the P200NS, I suggested him to wait for the P375...

do you know how much the P180 UG4 costs in the Latin America?? he purchased it for some $3000 which comes to 165000/- an year back...

he was asking about the cost here and when I said it will hardly cost $1500/- he was like WTF??? he also inquired about the P375 to which I had no answer as it is not yet in sales here in India.. so I did suggest him to wait for the P375 and if it is not affordable, suggested him the P200NS..

The Katana infact is one sexy ride which my friend had some 4 years back here in India and had to sell it off due to some family problems..

Latin America is different from North America i.e. US/Canada. I too noticed people using scooters/mopeds here, but bikes, they got to be big, either HD or sports bikes over 600cc. Only starters will be seen on Ninja 250R and they are very few. I really doubt Hero wants EBR to market scooters/mopeds in north america. That will be very funny, don't you think? So, that's why I said not sure what is Hero smoking.

I understand the fact that people use Ninja 250 as an entry level bike

maybe the Hero bikes will be used for kids

Lets wait and watch.. am sure its going to be a big time flop for Hero unless they bring performance oriented bikes in the market..

I guess the 250cc engine will be there in place of ZMR/ZMA-R engine that we are using.. which means an odd 27-29 bhp power output.. can't be sure until we see what happens..

Once they enter the american market, they will be forced to make bigger and better products to keep up with the competition. So maybe in 2 or 3 years time technology and bikes will trickle down to the Indian market from the american division of hero.Fingers crossed

I guess South American countries Brasil, Colombia, Peru Argentina etc, because those markets are developing and that's where Bajaj and TVS have very good foothold. Let's see how HERO compares, especially sub-saharan countries, where HERO's presence is real good.

                              Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                              The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
