The Ducati 1199 Superleggera has lived up to its name by being Superlight. It produces more than 200hp and weighs just 342 LBS (155 kg) dry weight. With all its fluids it weighs 390 pounds (177 kg), even less than a GT 250! This makes the motorcycle have the highest power to weight ratio on a production bike! This was achieved with a generous helping of carbon, magnesium and aliminium, ultra light materials.

Only 500 of these motorcycles are going to be produced and the price is not yet known.

Suspension duties are handled by lightweight Ohlins FL916 front suspension with fully-machined fork bottoms, and an Ohlins TTX36 rear suspension with titanium spring. Stopping the Superleggera are Brembo M50 Monoblock brakes with a racing-style MCS 19-21 front master cylinder and remote adjuster.

The finishing touches on the Superleggera are a lightweight Ergal rear sprocket, World Superbike spec 520 drive chain, carbon-fiber bodywork, forged and machined magnesium wheels, and Ducati Corse Red base livery.

When purchasing the Superleggera, buyers will also receive a Race Kit, which adds 5 horsepower and reduces weigh a further 5.5 lbs. for a total weight of 336.2 lbs.

This kit includes a titanium Akrapovic race exhaust system including silencers and 2-in-1 collector, high racing windscreen, dedicated dust cover, front and rear paddock stands, machined mirror fill-caps, and removal kits for the registration plate holder, and sidestand.

Stiff competition going by the specs but the power to weight ratio in this might change the game plan. Looking forward to a 'VERSUS' review.

What is it with 'only 500 bikes' will be produced? Does it mean the first batch or only 500 bikes forever? Little baffled here thinking about the services, spares et all.
Power to weight ratio is impressive but I keep thinking about the road grip and stability at high speeds.

S1000RR had 184 bhp at crank and 170 odd at the rear wheel, whereas Panigale made tall claims of 195 bhp at crank. But, dyno proved that it had 158 bhp only at the rear wheel. That was a massive transmission loss. And the result is for all to see.

BMW S1000RR HP4 has 193 bhp at crank and this Ducati has 200+. Lets wait and watch!
                  MCN/Top Speed, you guys listening???

Ducati is going the Audi way after its takeover!
Only 500 units would be created. EVER! And most of them would be show pieces. So, no spares needed. Moreover, they would be priced twice as high w.r.t a Panigale (which comes at a premium) at least!

Same with Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ferrari too. They are more into making collector's edition now.
