Why is there a difference in torque figures of the same bike in UK and India?

It's all over the news mate! They were selling the Brazilian spec bike here with EU spec which stands at 85 PS as opposed to the 105 for EU. ARAI has recently released the actual power figures after testing the bikes rigorously, which technically stands at 79 PS. Now, this wasn't a fact communicated to Indian buyers earlier although they have mentioned EU spec everywhere - website, fine-print etc. This has created a disturbance and reportedly the Bangalore Triumph owners have decided to go to the court and take action against the British manufacturer legally. Only time will tell.

Check the ownership threads for more info. Dustom Sir has given elaborate info on various aspects.

Check the Triumph India FB page. They had posted about this issue and are clearly saying that they had mentioned all this in "terms and conditions" :/

                Ride safe and have fun.

Triumph Motorcycles India Private Limited would like to clarify that the earlier information on Triumph India website displayed the EU specifications, which was mentioned under the terms and conditions section of our website. The testing processes in India and UK are different, which leads to variations in the calculation of power output in PS. The specifications are now updated on the website and are as per the certification under the ARAI regulations.Since our foray into the Indian market, all our CKD motorcycles in India have been registered as per the ARAI regulations and certifications and same is stated on our current website. Please note that specifications of all our motorcycles sold in India are of similar specifications which are sold elsewhere globally, with few minor variations to comply with Indian regulations.
We have also received some queries with regards to the Street Triple 675, Triumph Motorcycles. We would like to state that the motorcycles sold in India have always been the 85PS (79 PS as per ARAI Test Certificate) variant. We understand that some confusion has been caused to our esteemed customers in relation to the aforesaid. We request our customers to kindly allow us some time to review and revert on the same.
As a brand, Triumph Motorcycles India Private Limited values its customers and their satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. We request our customers to directly contact the dealerships in their respective cities for any further assistance. The contact detail for each individual dealership is available on our website. Customers can also reach us at [email protected]
We will review each query independently and try our best to resolve in accordance with the brand guidelines and procedures.

All media queries should be directed to Mr. Siddhartha Varma at [email protected].

It's a shame on part of the British marque, the so called iconic double faced Triumph. Why couldn't they display it on the website from the beginning itself that we are selling detuned version of our line up?? Was it soo difficult? They have definitely taken the customers for a ride, an expensive ride at that. How many of us will read the terms and conditions in fine print before buying anything? Even a toothpaste we buy comes with terms and conditions. Do we go through it? And these automotive magazines who reviewed the triumph line up for india never mentioned it anywhere. Paid media? Or did triumph manage to bluff even these so called veteran riders who review bikes for mags? Now that they have committed a brazen day light burglery, atleast the company should be forthright in accepting their double standards instead of blaming the end users. Come on, lets be honest, how many of us here will buy a triumph or any other sbks to run our daily errands!! In all probability its none! Bikes like these are mostly used for weekend joy rides, coffee rides and people take pride in going out riding in groups for fun. I agree that, we won't put all the horses at our disposal to work, very rarely we use such performance machines to its full potential but we have all the rights to know whether we are getting a CBR or a HH splendor in CBR clothes (names of the bikes taken for contextual purpose only). I am not a triumph user nor do I intend to buy one after knowing this fiasco, but in the end, it doesn't matter whose money it is. Superbiking in India is an expensive affair, thanks to the policies of our govt and upon that we have to bear with these fraudulent manufacturers. We all have sbk dreams, we work towards the realisation of it, toiling hard with our sweat, blood and tears, but in the end if we are played with like this, it hurts big time!!

This whole shit has proved 1 thing very clearly, that our so called experts who review new bikes and compare them are also cheaters. Dont know how on earth they all were comparing street triple with z800 which is atleast 30% more powerful than street triple and still they were bragging and praising both the bikes like both are equal in performance. Dont know how they did not felt that difference while riding them back to back ???

That is exactly my point. I wonder how these so called veterans who eat, drink and sleep bikes couldn't make out the difference.
