Checked online and got some more info about this deal.

This will be a Joint Venture between the two companies and will entail an investment of 27 Million USD over 10 years. The JV will being production by End 2014. Hero will have 60% stake in this while Magnetti Marelli will have 40%.

joint venture..??

the way in which hero is moving ahead is very different then, what other indian companies like bajaj and tvs are doing. bajaj and tvs are shaking hands with other big and well established bike manufacturers who are already into volume business. whereas hero is kind of hiring companies with specific expertise. so future hero bike will be designed by erik buell, while its powertrain will be co-developed by AVL and its ECU supplied by magneti marelli.

looks like a coalition government.

Forming too many JV's, it appears that Hero hasn't really decided on what to do. As far as Indian market is concerned, they need not worry as long as they get a decent replacement engine for Splendor/Passion. In premium segment, I don't think Hero got a chance, there is simply too much competition entering the market. By the time Hero brings in it's products, there will be lot of established models in the market. But they have got Karizma with which they should try to evolve a brand, it's got decent following, though recent upgrade is not flattering (in terms of looks).

ktm may not be bigger than bajaj, but it was a well established brand with lot of products already in market and was already a player in bike manufacturing.

other is BMW who tied up with TVS.

i just wanted to share my views on the different kind of strategy hero is adapting.

Very strange how can such a mega company running to all corners ??

Infact they should join hands with 1 good company and work ahead.

It was to happen. As Keihin was the supplier of fuel and emission equipment for Hero, but since hero separated from Honda so it is obvious Keihin will not supply. Check from the market itself as all Japanese manufacturers like Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha use Keihin components but Bajaj, TVS use UCAL MIKUNI fuelling.

No company be it Honda, Bajaj, TVS, Suzuki or even in four wheeler use fueling and emission equipment of their own.

In two wheeler Keihin and Ucal Mikuni were leaders and in Four wheeler MICO-BOSCH and TVS-lucas in diesels and Keihin and Mikuni in petrol.

So nothing new. Its is first time that Magneti marelli has tied up for an Indian company. Looking forward to it as it will also help in making FI of its product and magnetti marelli is a well known name in racing and all over the world.

I had visited Magnetti marelli website and they have confirmed that Hero has tied up with them.

It is supplier of fueling and exhaust components to Ducati, MV AUGUSTA, APRILLA RSV 4, e.t.c.

It is nothing surprising as fueling is one area where all companies looks to expert in that field.

Thanks for the update..... Its good to see someone actually doing research and posting.... and frankly i believe the Hero management has more brains and expertise in running a company then us here... so rather than slaming them on account of our inadequate knowledge is wrong.....

The expertise that they have cannot be with us. As we are thinking in our view but they are thinking about there view.

According to technology agreement Magneti marelli and Hero will build a plant here in 2015 and will start production by that year itself.

From the website of Magnetti marelli it is clear that Hero will start electronics engine management in its bike and will have ride by wire technology. Also it will assist hero in production of hybrid vehicles.

Magnetti marelli is a giant and is also the best in its own field. All companies like YAMAHA, KAWASAKI else use Keihin for their superbikes but when it comes to their racing bikes most companies prefer Magnetti marelli.

Just see the customers of the company and you will get a rough idea.

The areas where magnetti marelli deals are:-

Automotive lightning,power train, electronics systems, suspension systems, exhaust system, e.t.c.

Slamming someone is easy but doing actual research and seeing the merits of the JV will need some deep insight.

Its the worst company that looks like it works without an R&D on their own. Instead of doing JV`s , they can invest that money in recruiting bright persons from our country itself.
