Re: Random News Thread From India!

Just came across this : http://www.oncars.in/car-news/bajaj-...pitalized/7214

The Bajaj Pulsar RS200 is the fastest Bajaj bike in the country, which had received an excellent response from buyers in India. The vehicle had received the initial bookings of 3,500 units in a month from just 30 cities across India. In order to meet demand, Bajaj Auto has increased the production capacity at its Chakan manufacturing unit.

The RS200 has recently met with an accident, which suggests that the bike has possible defect. If reports are to be believed, the accident was happened due to failure of the front alloy wheels when subjected to braking. Both rider and pillion are reported to be hospitalized.

Going by the photographs of the motorcycle, it is visible that the spokes broke off the rim. The damaged front is due to the loss of front wheel while the bike was in motion. It is clear that the failed front wheel is the main reason behind the accident. Few days back, similar incident was happened due to failure of front alloy wheels of KTM Duke Customers.

The unusual break away of spokes from rim could be caused either by a poor design that could increase cyclic stress at the points where the spokes meet the rim, or manufacturing defect. We expect that Bajaj Auto will look into this matter and rectify the problem.

Chain reaction: 50 bikers help Borivali cops chase down petty thieves

Realising that the their generic bikes were no match for these souped-up machines, the Borivali police turned to groups of professional bikers and chose 50 men to help chase down chain snatchers. Of these, 25 were brought in as riders, while the rest ride pillion with policemen.

The Borivali police said the initiative has already shown positive results, with chain snatching cases down from the previous month. While 51 chain snatching cases were registered in Borivali last year, the first seven months of 2015 have seen only 15 chain snatching cases. The Borivali police are now in talks to replicate the initiative in other parts of north Mumbai.
Apart from bringing in some much-needed speed to tackle the problem, the initiative has also led to increased patrolling in the area. Senior officers, including the assistant commissioner of police, now begin patrolling as early as 6am.
The police have also put together a public announcement system and mounted it on a vehicle, which is driven around Borivali with a pre-recorded message that warns citizens about chain snatchers and urges them to be vigilant.

exhaust and stickering jobs are more common mods and both aren't permitted. with vinyl/paint if the actual colour of the car/motorcycle has been changed it needs to be endorsed in RC and loud exhausts are certainly not permitted.

What about bodywork? For eg: If i were to convert the 2011 250R into the 2015 250R(dual headlight model), is that going to be illegal or is there a provision in the RC where i can mention the changes legally? Its a 90% fit from factory afaik
            Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

How the hell will a police cop know what the 2011 and the 2015 difference is?

Anyways, nothing that a piece of paper with 100 and Gandhiji on it can't sort out. :P

logically it should be illegal as you are changing the look of a vehicle however indian laws have no clarity over such modification on motorcycles and some rules for 4 wheelers hence there wont be a difference.

as per law you cannot even change the headlight bulb that came to factory to something else. but then people do it. cops wont know it. neither the fairing.
and for cbr fairing its not 90% fit the tank design and side pads are diffrent. the notches inside also needs some welding. its pretty much doable but not a 90% direct fit.
                lot of small work.

Honda has imported components of the CB500X. Now the parts are for only one unit of the bike, which means it may be produced here (as opposed to assembled here)
but since its Honda we are talking about, I am of the opinion that this is some timepass going on with no launch plans.

SO A few days back I noticed that Ducati India website No longer showcases the Monster 796 and S2R. . . My speculation is they have been discreetly discontinued in India. Will confirm from a Ducati Dealer soon!
