  • Bajaj Discover 125ST Domestic Sale stopped: xBhp News

Bajaj Auto has stopped domestic sales of the Discover 125ST, but will continue to produce it for exports

Poor sales performance in the domestic market has forced Bajaj Auto to pull its flagship Discover model, the Discover 125ST off the market. The Discover 125ST which was launched around two years back (in May 2012) was targeted at the enthusiast on a budget. It had the most powerful engine in its class with a 4-valve head and twin spark plugs. It was also the only motorcycle in its class to come with a monoshock. However, the relatively higher pricing of the Discover 125ST is the main reason for its poor showing. Another factor that contributed to the Discover 125ST's dismal sales performance was its high rear seat height, which made it difficult for the pillion, mainly ladies, to mount the bike.

The Discover 125ST is based on the more expensive of the current Discover platforms which it shares with the Discover 125T and 100T. It produces 13PS of max power coming in at a high 9,000rpm and has a claimed top speed of 105kmph. The fuel efficiency for the motorcycle under test conditions is rated at 77.1kmpl. To convey its intentions of being a sporty commuter, the Discover 125ST also only came with a 200mm petal front disc brake and no drum brake option. Bajaj has now pulled the Discover 125ST, which was priced at Rs 53,730 ex-showroom in Pune, off its website. This now limits Bajaj's 125 domestic range to three models: The Discover 125T now sits on top followed by the Discover 125M or new Discover 125, and the old shape Discover 125.

Decent bike but the pillion seat was too high.

This was to happen as launching too much model will only ensure that not a single model sells in huge number.

Also with this much models customers get problems in obtaining spares and service for bikes. Bajaj has always stopped selling their good bikes just in order to experiment.

Some of its succesful models like caliber, caliber 115 and wind 125 were pulled to stop when they were selling in good numbers. This has led to customers not gaining trust in buying as they do not know when their bike will be stopped and resale value will go and also spares availabilty will become a problem.

This frequent launching of different models is actually a curse for bajaj as it has let the public to lost faitj in the products life cycle.

sad to know that, however, seat height is definitely one of the criteria in budget motorcycles, what is the use if saree clad women cant sit on it, in india it matters.

When I bought the 200ns, I had fear that 99% it'd stop by the year end, and when bajaj announced dual tone colours, I literally thought this is the end (dual tones on a 1.5yr old bike that didn't sell much) ,but still right now, everything's fine but I'm constant at fear.
And yeah, launching more varieties of discover than human race, it was bound to happen.
Though 125 ST was the only discover, that I've ever liked. Sad it's out.

Feeling bad for those who put there hard earned money into buying discover 125st. Bajaj gives up very easily. They should borrow some guts from hero and yamaha as these companies are still selling bikes like achiever and crux respectively. Platina 125, discover 125st, boxer 150, Wind 125, discover 100(5s), I guess all these bikes had a very short life span i.e. below 4 years.

                          Here is experiment/confusion list:

                          1. Discover 125
                          2. Discover 125 5s
                          3. Discover 112
                          4. Discover 135
                          5. Discover 135 5s
                          6. Discover 135 (new look i.e. indicators on tank and digital speedo)
                          7. Discover 100
                          8. Discover 100 5s
                          9. Discover 150
                          10. Discover 125 st
                          11. Discover 125 t
                          12. Discover 125 m
                          13. Discover 100 t
                          14. Discover 100 m ....and many more to come

Some came with exhaust-tec, some with single and others with dual spark plugs. All in all 14 different model in 10 years which excludes facelifts and variants. Out of those 14 only 6 are alive which means bajaj discontinued .8 model per year or you can say 1 discover after every 15 months (approx) on an average.

I think bajaj should launch discover with following names so that customers can choose the required bike easily:

                          1. Discover 100
                          (a) Discover P (p stands for power)
                          (b) Discover PM (power and mileage)
                          (c) Discover M (mileage)

                          2. Discover 125
                          (a) Discover P (p stands for power)
                          (b) Discover PM (power and mileage)
                          (c) Discover M (mileage)

                          3. Discover 150
                          (a) Discover P (p stands for power)
                          (b) Discover PM (power and mileage)
                          (c) Discover M (mileage)

This way bajaj will be able to manage things easily without confusing and irritating people. At the same time they can keep themselves happy and entertained with making half a bhp or 1 bhp difference between P, PM and M models

Now suffix (st) in Discover 125st means stopped, i think Bajaj should also mention that for how many months a particular model will be sold in the market like they could have added
at the end of Discover 125st(2), which means for 2years.
