Re: Yamaha to launch new FZ-S on June 30

Yamaha launches new FZ-S and FZ for Rs 78250 & Rs 76250 with fuel injection with reduced power

Yamaha has launched the new FZ-S Version 2.0 and the more affordable FZ Version 2.0 with fuel injection and claims higher fuel efficiency now

The Yamaha FZ series has done very well. It has been appreciated for its styling, its dynamics and its street presence. But, the only so called downside to the motorcycle was its fuel economy. Yamaha has addressed this on the new version of the FZ.

Called the FZ-S Version 2.0 and FZ Version 2.0, the new Yamaha 150cc motorcycle sports fuel injection and Yamaha's own Blue Core tech. Blue Core tech, a global initiative on Yamaha's end, is centred around improving the efficiency of its engines. It involves higher combustion efficiency, reduced power losses and better metering of fuel. Yamaha India claims a 14 per cent improvement for the new FZ's fuel economy over the older model. Blue Core will also be used on every new model and engine that Yamaha brings from here on.

The FZ-S Version 2.0 which is priced at Rs 78,250 ex-showroom in Delhi (the FZ Version 2.0 is priced at Rs 76,250) also sports some styling changes. It has a two piece seat, a new front bikini faring, and redesigned cooling shrouds under the fuel tank. Yamaha has also introduced new colour schemes for the motorcycle.

Mechanically, not much has changed. The engine now displaces less and makes less power. Using the fuel injection it now develops a max power output of 13.1PS and the peak torque 12.8Nm. The motorcycle is expected to be smoother than before as well. The gearbox is a five speed unit and the cycle parts continue unchanged too. It sports beefy telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear. A rear wheel hugger has also been added. The frame of the new Yamaha FZ series has been reworked, and along with the engine changes the new bike loses 3kg.

According to Yamaha, it wanted to make the FZ sportier, more stylish and more exciting, but without compromising on the comfort and fuel economy. And this has been achieved in the new FZ-S, says the Japanese bike maker. The bike is already on sale and the deliveries for the new FZ-S Version 2.0 will begin in

Man they decreased 4cc and here i was hoping for an increase.

Nonetheless, FZ has now become a good option for all since its only disadvantage (mileage) has been taken care of.

      Ride safe and have fun.

Here is a list of features and updates to the new FZ version 2:
              • New FZ V2 comes with a newly designed 149cc engine in place of the old 153cc.
              • New FZ V2 will come with Fuel Injection in place of the old Carburetter
              • New tech is called as Blue Core.
              • Yamaha says that it will increase combustion efficiency, power loss reduction and will aid in precise control fuel supply ignition timing
              • Yamaha promises better performance and higher mileage
              • New FZ V2 gets 14 percent increment in mileage
              • Specs wise, the new 149cc engine produces 13.1PS of power and 12.8Nm of torque as compared to 14PS and 13.6Nm of the outgoing variant.
              • New LCD Instrument Cluster with ECO Indicator
              • New front and rear suspension settings
              • Yamaha says they have also tweaked the chassis for a better ride.
              • New Front & rear tyres
              • At 132kgs, new FZ version 2 is 3 kgs lighter. It is the lightest 150cc in the market.
              • For performance: Yamaha says that if older FZ covers 100meters in x amount of time, new FZ will do 103 meters in the same time.
              • Yamaha recommends FI cleaning every 6000kms
              • Yamaha is targeting young customers in the age of 18-30 years.
              • Both the models will be available from beginning July 2014.

A very interesting approach by Yamaha. Clearly the approach is to improve mileage figure significantly by bringing Fi, lowering the Ps numbers. They have taken this calculated risk of decreasing power figures as most of the customers are unaware of power figures. But there is also an increase of 7k in the price over the older FZ so I don't think there will be a substantial increase in sales number

What can a company do when everyone asks the same question "kitna deti haih", but the good thing is atleast they have brought Fi and that should help in better combustion and linear power delivery.

Jeeeezzz.. that tyre hugger is a big bugger for sure.
Overall looks decent with a proper refresh this time. Yamaha finally seems to have got over their 'paint-a-thon' ideology.

Expecting Yamaha to come up with something on the same lines for the Fazer as well. More importantly, FI with an added 50cc or 100cc bump to the engine along with some minor cosmetic changes
(Fazer does need a bigger engine since Yamaha brands and sells it as a tourer, which is not justified by the current model)

Come on Yammie, no more 'revz your heart'. Its now time to 'race your heart'.

I don't like the rear hugger, power decreased, that 2-3 kgs gonna compliment that power lose or not I am not sure, but I think the main focus from Yamaha for refreshing a product is less fuel consumption, nothing else...

Now at least now bring the R25 Yamaha....

Interesting would be to note if the older (V 1.0) FZ-16/S remains for sale or get's replaced by the V2.0.

Anyway I am not too sure that it was because of the (comparatively) lower fuel efficiency why the FZ was still not the best selling 150 cc?

"Fi" tech at just 5-7K premium is definitely praiseworthy (and to me the high point of this upgrade).. But there are serious misconceptions and unrealistic expectations about what "Fi" can / cannot do.

I feel its pricing which has been increased by 6-7000 rs/- will spoil the party for yamaha. It will not bring more volumes for yamaha as there are several new bikes which are lined up for launch like gixxer 150, all new p150 (which will trump it in performance as well as mileage), hero xtreme sports, honda's new 160 cc etc. I guess all these bikes will trump it in performance, pricing and mileage as well except honda new 160cc as it can be priced near to new fz because of honda badge.

Don't know about others but I'm a little disappointed personally. Instead of increasing the power, they have done the opposite! Though it's the lightest 150 cc, it's also one of the least powered @ 13.1 bhp. Now, if the Fazer is relaunched with a de-tuned engine, the highest capacity Yamaha in India will be the R15 v 2.0 @ 149.8 cc. What about those who had expected an Yamaha between 150-200 cc?
Though the build quality, smoothness, reliability and performance remains unmatched, Yamaha is not doing any good to their reputation by ignoring the urge for more powerful bikes. India now has P200,P220,RTR180 which are having equal or more power than the R15. As an admirer of Yamaha since childhood, I think Yamaha is doing good to their competitors rather than themselves. Yamaha deserves a big 'Thank You Very Much' note specially from Honda & Suzuki who are ready with slightly more powerful engines. A 4-stroke RX-135 would have been more appreciated than this I guess!
Along with the reputation earned over the years, it's necessary to launch products that is relevant to time.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Well most of the indian customers don't even care if it's an FI or carb unit. The only clear aim is to increase efficiency here.
