  • TVS Victor Launch within 6 months

TVS Motor Company, which is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has really grasped the two wheeler market initiative and buoyed by its performance in recent times, the firm is now gunning to regain the recently attained third rank in India by way of introducing new models in the ongoing fiscal. At the moment, TVS Motor Company is fourth behind Hero MotoCorp, Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India and Bajaj Auto but it is willing to change that particular scenario.

According to reports, the Chennai-based company is set to launch a new scooter named Zest along with refurbished versions of Apache and Victor motorcycles by the end of the 2014-15 fiscal year, thereby increasing sales and reaching the third position in India.Venu Srinivasan, the Managing Director and Chairman of TVS Motor Company, quite explicitly spoke about this plan at the Annual General Meeting or AGM. "The company would look to regain its third position in the two-wheeler market backed by new launches, the company intends to launch scooter Zest and bikes Victor and Apache before the end of this fiscal," he was quoted as saying.

Speaking about all the success achieved by the firm, he said that the performances of TVS Jupiter and Star City led the firm to change the launch of Zest and Victor models but the plan of introducing a new vehicle every three or four months is still active and will be put to action.

Sources claim the TVS has been taking a cue from Bajaj Auto in terms of the export market and would be targeting emerging regions across the globe, such as Africa, Indonesia and South America. Along with this, positive news that was communicated by Srinivasan was the expected cash positive state of TVS’ Indonesian subsidiary by next year.

TVS, not so long ago, was in doldrums and regular losses were being incurred but the company’s think tank studied the challenges in the Indonesian two-wheeler market and a turnaround was staged, which has been quite remarkable. Some of the best selling products of TVS Motor Company are Star City, Jupiter, Apache RTR and Wego.

Incredibly, TVS has registered an excellent growth rate of 34.82 per cent in sales of motorcycles and scooters in the fiscal year up till the month of July. Sales of two-wheelers have been recorded at 424307 units in comparison to the 314699 units it sold last year in the corresponding period.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

They must bring good and reliable products which must stay in the market for long periods, not like bajaj, secondly they have to make sure the availabilty of spares.

re: TVS Victor Launch within 6 months

Victor will definitely dent discover sales which will hurt bajaj a lot. According to me hero enjoys a very loyal customer base and they truly deserve it. Splendour and passion are not just family bikes, you know their are many places/villages where one can see 90% hero's share in motorcycle market. Even honda is struggling badly in market as they were planning to trump hero by 2017-2018 which is looking like a joke now. Dream series tanked badly and its combined(dream yuga, dream neo and cd 110) sales figures are below 50,000 which is less than half of their expectation where as hero is selling more than 3,00,000 bikes consistently under 100cc segment but still there are some people who believe in honda and they are buying honda products. So we are left with bajaj only which is loosing faith in the market because of discover rain. On the other hand tvs will launch 1 or max 2 variants of victor and they will promote it properly which will give them good numbers which will hurt discover because discover series is on edge now as you people now there was a time when discover was touching 1 lac units but now its below 50,000 which shows its future. Bajaj should try saving discover by backing up its existing variants properly atleast for next 2-3 years if they want to win back faith.

a company's success is not determined by just one skew (the 100cc mobike category you mentioned above) ... well lets just wait and watch !

btw, the victor is definitely going to make it reappearance soon.. only time will tell how people will embrace it. TVS sells more down south especially its home ground Tamilnadu, it will take time and effort before they start doing big numbers across the country.

TVS as far as I know have reliable bikes. Spares availability has never been an issue for TVS.. the TVS star sports is a huge hit down in south and in villages.. seen lots of splendors, passions and after these 2 hero products i have seen many TVS star sports in village and outskirts.. another important criteria is the service network. How they will be accessible.. i have seen Hero service everywhere i have been.. even in the middle of nowhere i saw Hero Service Center.. thats what makes Hero a huge success..

I was also of the same opinion regarding spares till they started saying off late that they can't place order for any more spares for my Fiero F2. This could also be an effect of the State bifurcation. But why should only one discontinued model be affected?
Hope the situation improves coz I don't wanna end up selling my F2 due to lack of spares.

I believe spares availability is an issue with Tvs, it might not be an issue in south but down here in north India you just don't get spares of Tvs bikes, even the newer bikes are having same spares problem.

Are you aware that Honda has sold 10 lac dream bikes in 2 yrs?? It might just be possible for Honda to overtake Hero if not by 2018 then surely till 2020.

It might sound bitter, but I will give you the harsh facts of indian motorcycle market.

                            1. ) The so called "no.1 motorcycle manufacturer" aka Hero moto corp is making a fool of indian buyers by selling decade old 97.2cc engine technology introduced by Honda during the hero-honda tieup days. The technology is decidedly previous generation. Hero has a presence in India because of the faith that the indian motorcycle buyer has in the splendor. When splendor sales collapse it will be the end of Hero.

2.) Bajaj has come up with outstanding technology (digital twin spark, 4 valves per cylinder) which even Honda, yamaha, kawasaki has not launched till date. Their problem is they dont have the patience to wait for a product to get settled in the market. Rahul Bajaj feels that once he launches a new bike in the market, that new bike sales will reach 1lac in one month. AND if they dont then Mr rahul bajaj will discontinue the product. hahaha!! what a joke.

3.) TVS and suzuki are not even in the competition list. They dont even have a single strong product in any of the segments.

4.) Honda on the other hand has the patience to keep the production of each and every product going on, even if the product is not selling in huge numbers. This patience has helped them to become segment toppers in scooter (activa) and 125 cc (shine) segment.
Once the dream series overtakes the splendor (which will surely happen in a matter of time), the only segment remaining will be 150 cc. There is news that in Q4 of this yr, Honda is launching a premium 160 cc bike.

There are a lot of people who are feel it is impossible to overtake Hero. As S1d said "lets wait and watch"

Re: TVS Victor Launch within 6 months

Both Hero and Honda are very familiar names in India. Customers trust the brand names. Hero makes cycles and thus is more known to the masses in the rural areas. They also have the best service network in India.
Honda after the break up has managed to do strong specially in the commuter business. The dream series has already sold more than 1 million units and is growing. What Splendor is for Hero Activa and Shine is for Honda.
Both the companies are launching new products in almost every segment. The huge numbers of Splendors and Shines are not there for nothing - they are exceptionally good products which have cleared the test of time with distinction. And only Bajaj is there for the race to the top apart from these two. Despite having Apache in their steed, it is very difficult for TVS to reach the top as they don't have any other product which sells in large numbers and is consistent.
Yamaha,Suzuki and RE are never in the race and I don't think they ever will be. They cater to a specific type/segment of customers and don't sell in huge numbers. And all of them are happy with that it seems.
Save the last ten years, the number of choices Indian customers had was limited. Now we have more choices and so our tastes are changing. 15 years ago if I'd said that my neighborhood has a Harley Davidson/Triumph/Ducati showroom, people would have sent me to the nearest mental asylum! Now the situation is different. So, let's give 3 years of time and see what the scenario becomes.
