A few days back, my father was admitted in the hospital after a stroke. I was informed and I rushed to the hospital. I had to take such a route which was not known to me. I asked some locals and they happily pointed out to a road which ends right in front of the hospital. It was an almost dark road with no visible road signs. Upon reaching the signal, I was stopped and asked to show my DL by the traffic police. My crime was - I was riding down a one-way lane(it was a one-way lane indeed but I didn't know that). My DL was almost snatched away even after I conveyed the gravity of the situation to them. I was advised to visit the outpost after my 'visit' to the hospital was over. I came back after 2 hr.s after admitting my father and was informed that I 'have to' cough up Rs. 400/-. I tried hard to make the in-charge understand that it was my first traffic violation and that too in case of an emergency. But all came to a zero. Just when I left, I saw something in my RVM. Two persons riding without helmets came from the same direction as I was, stood right there in the middle of the road and started chit-chatting with the cop. Nobody told him nothing. By the time the signal was green and I could move, those two person just flew away in their bike. Were the cops simply too afraid to take any actions against them?
Mentally I was not willing enough to make it an issue but my question is when a life and death scenario like this comes and anyone unwillingly makes any offense, would he/she still have to pay 2.5/5K?
I'll be ready to pay the fine if no car carrying a municipal/corporation/district/state level leader makes his/her way out through the wrong side before an ambulance. Can the people behind this type of law guarantee his/her convoy will never break traffic rules.
Sorry if I've vented out too much but that's what I feel.

No need to feel sorry bro how is your father now hope he is fine now, coming to the harasement that you have been through, there is one thing which every individual of this country should know that all of us are stupid common man, we are aam janta and not any VIP hence rules are made for us only, and you are right the cop should have understood the gravity of the situation but as usual he showed his arrogance and idiotness.

Pls start doing that if you already have the cam. you can upload it on youtube and send it across to the media. Also most cities now have some kind of an email or fb page for the police, so make it a point to copy them in the email and mention on fb.
My scooter was recently photographed for parking in what they call 'service lane'. The truth is it was parked near the footpath next to a grocery store where there was no 'no parking' signage anywhere around. I am emailing them with my pics and video of that area and asking them to clarify what they mean by a 'service lane' and where do they expect ppl to park the vehicles and if it was a no parking area, why was there no signage ?

If you do not have proof you are handicapped, but if you have the proof then trust me with little effort you can screw them and NEVER show mercy even if they beg or try to compromise with you later on.

strict laws are a welcome thing, but there should be strict implementation too. and these fines are way too much high.

btw, how to differentiate between over-speeding and racing.

i remember once i called the up pune police control room number to complain about a rash driver on pune mumbai expressway and they replied it is very difficult to catch him and even if we catch him how will we prove that he was driving rash. so sir if there is no accident involved, you plz take it easy and let it be...this is india.. and then i was quite disappointed.

Great idea...but just won't work in India, firstly cops and road users mostly don't know the rules of the road, secondly most vehicles aren't road worthy, basic things such as no brake and/or tail lights functioning on many vehicles, the list goes on and on, corrupt people and cops, simply this will never be implemented properly.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Just imagine the same set of cops catching hold of you @ 70 kmph and giving you lessons and reminding you of the traffic rules and regulations and of course, the fine to be paid!

No law implementation in India, it will increase the bribe amount only resulting in same worst condition, no use of any rule until corruption is there

Higher fines are common in other countries also, it's an attempt to stop people from breaking laws, how much of this plan will be successful totally depends on the vehicle owner, vehicle rider.

From the entire article, I can just see one point: the 'Pandu Prasad' rate (bribe offered to traffic cops) going up from 100 bucks to 1000 bucks! Good time to join the Traffic Police!

its a setback for riders who follow traffic rules.and always police use Overspeeding tacticts if documents are correct. so false allegations will rise

Even if it only increases the bribe amount (I am hoping it doesn't only do that), it will still be a bigger deterrent than earlier. So overall a good thing.

A better way to make our crowd a little more disciplined would be to do the following:
                            1. Increase the fine amounts marginally from existing rates.
                            2. Impose COMMUNITY SERVICE (clean public toilets, parks , etc etc..)
                            3. Suspend license/ Imprisonment for repeat offenders. (how do you know who is a repeat offender if the license is from a different state ? -- use fingerprint biometric system and make this a centralized database that it can be accessed from any corner of the country. )
