Guys this might be a noob question and also a bit OT,but i would still like to know, why didn't they release the 125CC KTM RC?

i just read an old article,125cc duke is being exported from India to other market. why aren't we getting this low CC premium bikes? (even the R125 also)

Are you ready to pay 1.2 lakh for a 125cc bike when you can get a pulsar 200 or a royal Enfield for lesser or same price...???? While all other 125cc bikes in India are costing just ~60k...

Why not? Depends on what it has to offer. Did that analogy stop R15 from being a hit? 150cc bikes were available for almost half the price. Our market though not mature is getting there. People think spending 1 lac on a scooter is impossible now, but believe me, that too will change in a couple of years as we get better technology at a little premium price.

Options isn't a bad thing. Some will be able to buy some wont. But for those few who can, they will finally have something of their choice and not a compromise.

That's because its 125cc and if launched it would be an overly priced commuter segment bike that would lose out to all Indian 125cc bikes and also most 150cc ones in terms of value for money. But this problem doesn't exist for European markets where duke and Rc125 is being launched. Ktm is into entry level sports bikes in India and not commuters you see. So it has no logical market standing.

Lets look at what it has to offer. Its a 125cc 15bhp bike with a decent power to weight ratio and a indicated speed of 130kmph. Pulsar 180 does the same thing (maybe not the speed so much) for less and gives mileage. Not to mention you get pulsar220 and p200NS for less with almost double the power. Any way you look at it bro you get less for more with duke 125. So it seems impractical even to be able to buy this bike when cheaper more powerful and equally reliable thrills exist. And r15 is a 150cc 17bhp bike that was launched when people had no other options save karizma and p220. Cheers : )

I did not mean a duke 125. Well a R15 sells today also. same 17 bhp, albeit little more pricey than what it was earlier. But now you have options. Same that you mentioned 200 NS, pulsar 220, karizama, ZMR, Duke 200.

Then why is it selling? Because our market and our people are accepting quality products that are little different than what is on offer. If something radical gets launched in 125 cc then that too could sell. Now a days people have money and a lot of them just go out and buy what they like. How else would you rationalise people buying mobiles worth 50-60k. You get a high quality LED TV for the price. Times are changing so are the people and so is the mindset. Our parents would think 10 times to spend anything when they were young, does our generation do that?

Similarly next generation will be more free to choose and buy with economy only going upwards.

You have a point man but do consider the business and marketing aspects of it that I posted i.e the company's point of view (which is different from ours). The r15 though still on sale is an old reliable product and that is its main reason for selling same as p220 when 200NS exists. As I said in my earlier post, ktm is aiming at the entry level sports segment and not the sports commuter segment. But you do have a point. But then again a duke 125's main competitor would be r15. Which business wise would kinda beat the duke 125 like a drum.

My discussion was not centred around Duke 125. I said depends on the offering. A duke 125 all we know may not be priced that high. It is ultimately made by Bajaj, and hence would be priced lower than R15 incase it gets launched. Bajaj has the habit of introducing bikes at shock price.

But, that was not my point. I was not talking about Duke125 specifically.

The duke 200 is a bored duke 125 . the duke 200's top speed is 137 , while the duke 125' top speed is 135!
                      What's the difference ? Just marketing .
If the duke 125 or the r125 released in India they would be just 5 or 10k cheaper than the duke 200 or the r15 .
Making the sales an absolute nil!
Leaving the company at a loss.
Well I do agree to what you said..
But indians are not that lucky yet to have a choice in what they get to buy :P
Hopefully we will in a few years time !

Could be as you say about pricing. And of course I know your discussion was not centered around the duke. But I was just presenting the present market scenario.

Its all about the pricing then! its sad, while the bike is getting manufactured from our Indian plant n only being exported to other nations.

but KTM RC125 with a price mark less than duke 200 would had been great
i agree pulsar 220,pulsar 200ns,RE,karizma are available, but that totally depends on the individual decision as chinmayakar explained.

The headlights are very well-placed, well inside to be affected by any simple crash.

Plus, to me, the headlight cover looks downright ugly!!
