      Re: Bike Ambulance

Being a pharmacist and a health proffessional myself what I know regarding a motorcycle ambulance is to provide emergency supprt/treatment to the victim before the actual ambulance arrives. It cannot be used to transport a patient in the current scenario where there is lots of traffic and there is no chance to hold the patient. Some of the bikes of world war II era were used as ambulances to carry injured soldiers after sufficinet modifications and they looked like a bike attached to a hand pulled rickshaw

Nice initiative. I think a similar initiative was taken a few months back in some places where mobile fire stations were launched.

I'm not a doctor but work in a US Healthcare process. And whatever I see on a regular basis, a significant number of lives can be saved if attended very soon after the accident. That's why, people in the US give so much importance to Air Ambulance. Now, in India's over-congested roads, asking for Air Ambulance would be too much. So, till the time the ground ambulance comes, two wheels can save one's life. Like they say - Two wheels move the soul, four wheels move the body(no pun intended)!

Yes I understand that but in case of an emergency a bike with a sidecar will still be faster than a full size ambulance. What is happening is a very good idea and I was just citing the history of it.

I am going little OT here, but I always imagine that air ambulance in India can be a reality in Tier 1 cities, if multiple heli-pads in 4-5 kms vicinity each, are made to airlift patience. This wiil reduce the "stuck in-traffic" time of the ambulance. Creating landing space (on ground or on building roof tops) and acquiring thousand of clearance from different agencies would be the biggest hurdle though, but if planned right this could be achieved. Isn't it?

                Re: Bike Ambulance

                Fellow Bikers,

Its a prototype built by a XBHPn Me.

I appreciate the concerns about transporting victims on a stretcher, understand that legally only a vehicle that will protect the patient even when the ambulance turns turtle can be used to transport patients, as even a simple case of vomiting can also not be attended to by the rider. having said that please read further on my perspective of things.

                Problem Statement?
With ever increasing traffic and impatient drivers, there is a surge in medical emergencies on city roads. Often it takes regular ambulances close to an hour to reach the incident spot in peak traffic.

Reporting an Incident is not easy, Usually people avoid informing authorities for fear of harassment. Tracking progress of Ambulance is not possible while you can track a cab!

                Conclusion:
Clear & Immediate need for rapid trauma response even in peak traffic exists

                Our solutions
TWA aims at drastically reducing time taken by trained medical staff to reach accident spot and provide first aid to trauma victims.

                What we Envisioned :

People Report with the client App that has 3 modes:
Auto: where based on shake if not snoozed within 25 seconds, it sends SMS to 5 pre registered numbers a help message with location & calls an Ambulance
HelpMe: Same as Auto but one touch trigger by user
Report: where you don't need help but report for others in need

The Server is notified with location, it finds the nearest TWA & notifies it & the regular Ambulance
We are working on a Octocoptor that can fly to the spot & stream live video, possibly drop a first aid kit with a App, but not sure in our demography if we will get the kit back!

Once a TWA acknowledges to an incident, its kms, ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) and map location is tracked until it reach the incident spot & the reporter can carry on with his daily job after reporting while he is informed of the progress on the incident.
Once the TWA is at the spot, We can use out TeleMedicine Client App to do a Live Video chat with Doctor, who can then guid the medically trained rider to do First Aid / Stop blood loss, apply splints administer IV & O2, stabilise the patient until a regular ambulance arrives, OR in SOME REARE cases transport him ( I understand the concern here & acknowledge it) on the Deepavali Festival day I saw a RTA (Road Traffic Accident) in peak hours on ORR in Bangalore, The Rider had died on the spot, his intestines were out on the road, the pillion was hurt, but was sitting on the road & bleeding from his head shouting a lorry hit & ran Help me in Kannada, chased the lorry driver and caught him the driver after couple of signals. it took 15 minutes for the traffic police to reach the Truck and for me to handover the Truck keys to them & head home for Pooja, don't know how long a regular ambulance would have taken to reach there, learnt from passerby's live witness that the two wheeler guys were overtaking the slow lorry on the extreme right lane from left side & a Volvo over took both from left side, the 500D climbed on them after they touched the lorry & fell on road.

IMHO a TWA transporting the pillion involved in RTA is much better than leaving him waiting on the road waiting for First Ambulance to arrive, Again its the first version of a Prototype concept, and 90% of Time will be used as a pilot of regular 4 wheel ambulance & NOT TO transport patients.

It is a really good initiative.
Am not against it but i got a point to make, assuming that the patient is serious behind during the time of emergency the rider tend to panic and drive. Biking is all about Balancing. Slight nudge and we risk the life of ours and the patient(Patients health condition as it is critical), god forbid a fall happens, the blame entirely comes on this company then??

Nice work with the rear seat of the Duke 390.

I hope Bajaj / KTM do something to Duke 390 to make the rider and pillion seat more comfertable...... If some added frame bits can support an injured human - shows that it could be done, why not give it a REAL SEAT and sell as standard offering in the market ?

Personally that is the only thing keeping me from buying the bike
I'm sure there will be many more like me....

                        @Seamus, Yes Appreciate your concern,

As I have already explained Patient transport is currently allowed only on a vehicle that protects Patient even if the Ambulance turns turtle, This is a Prototype & we are trying to do more than what is allowed, but is needed, the TWA transporting Patient is envisioned, meant ONLY for short < 10 kms distances in PEAK traffic where the regular ambulance cannot come & his life is in threat, cannot be stabilised on roadside waiting for Ambulance (or in Military combat zones where an Ambulance might not find it accessible).

My Wife also was not happy with the rear seat, promised to Fix it and done just that, can fabricate it, will cost 12,000 INR, including fabrication in Aluminium, mounts, locking, seat cover & painting & wait time of 15 days minimum.

Instead of this there should be strict law enforcement and workshops for all car owners as compulsory annually two times. So they learn to give sides to ambulance, police and firebrigades.
