Also KTM said they will introduce Pirely tyres ( not sure about the source ) . That also was not there. Just curious , really the 2015 model is out on sale ? Also if somebody books the bike will they get the new model with slipper clutch ? The waiting period is 4 days . Any info please .

    Thanks

Actually the problem is there are way too much stock of D390 without SC(read Slipper Clutch) in India and most of the dealers will sell these non SC equipped bike first and then only they will start selling the latest SC models. Not all 2015 models came with SC, so you have to press the clutch and see out for yourself whether its the SC model or not . As you mentioned Indiranagar showroom, their godown is right underneath the building AFAIK, so you can tell them you will select your vehicle yourself. You can choose the SC model, note the engine no. And Chassis No. And ask them to make sure they dont change it later. And I have personally seen SC models in the same showroom earlier this month.
And talking about tyres , yes KTM are planning to change the tyres to Pirelli but I dont know when it will happen or whether it will ever happen. Negotiations are going with Metz as well as Pirelli and I guess both the tyres perform equally well.

It appears that to control cost increase due to slipper clutch they are trying to source some cheaper components as alternatives, like for ex tyres above.

Thanks mate , that was informative ... will they allow the customer to get into the godown and select the vehicle they want ? I doubt though, but worth a try .. . They customer representative alao was very friendly and allowed me to sit on the display peice and check even though it was written DO NOT SIT. So i can ask him for the same.

AFAIK Pireli tyres are not cheap, they also give good grip and cornering stability.

I booked a duke 390, but forgot to ask for its manufacturing date. I have its engine number and chassis number. Can it's manufacturing date be told from those?
The showroom guy said that they don't have the info on date, so cant give it to me, which is making me more suspicious.

the 10th digit is the month of manufacture --should be F for 2015 model , month is 8th digit with A being April , B being May and continuing further till M for March. What are your 8th and 10th digits of VIN(chassis No)

What a pain for customers!! Why can't Bajaj replace all outgoing bikes with slipper clutch, rather ccustomers depending on their luck.😕

                              Hi Ivin,

When you mentioned, "press the clutch and see for yourself", do you mean on a standing motorcycle? AFAIK, there are no visible differences between a wet/dry clutch and the slipper one. Secondly, I checked it myself on one of the Dukes in the showroom but the feel was same as of a wet clutch. However, when I rode one of my friend's Duke with slipper clutch, I immediately got to know.

If there's a way to find out if it is a slipper clutch model or not please let me know as I am thinking of getting one..Showroom guy also mentioned that by paying 15K, Slipper clutch can be fitted to the old Dukes.

One more thing, I am not sure about the Bangalore but in Delhi, Dukes are coming with Metzlers as OEM. No news about Pirellis, which are a bit on the expensive side.

As comparing to the earlier dukes , the SC clutch was very well understood by pressing the clutch even at stand still. I was used to riding the old 390 for such a long time so the clutch change was easily noticed. It might change for a person who is comparing both for first time. Also as you said, riding both can also easily make one understand the difference.
All the new Duke 390's comes with SC. so you can go ahead and choose any new one. Afaik, from feb last, all models are equipped with SC.
Some markets are getting 390 with Pirelli Diablo Rosso, but India will continue with Metz. Pirelli has also launched ANGEL CT in same sizes. But I am not sure if it will make it to India. It would be a cheaper alternative.
