    Helmets compulsory in Tamil Nadu from 1st July 2015: xBhp News

    Motor Vehicle Act has been reinforced by the Madras High Court, thus making it mandatory to wear a helmet for two wheeler riders. If not found wearing a helmet than driving license impounding will be done for strict law enforcement as per the Madras High Court order. The impounded driving license will be released after showing a ISI certified helmet along with a purchase receipt.

    The Madras High Court has directed state government to make helmet wearing compulsory by 1st July 2015. The Court has also asked officials to install CCTV cameras at all the junctions and roads for monitoring the implementation of the respective order.

    Justice N Kirubakaran passed the order after taking note of statistics provided by the Home Secretary that 6,419 people lost their lives in Tamil Nadu in 2014 alone as they failed to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.

    The court also directed the Union Ministry of Surface Transport to study details of helmet designs so that visibility on both the sides of the helmet would not be blocked. Further, it also asked the ministry to direct all the States to monitor the implementation of the rule.

    This rule (It's a shame, people wear helmets just because it's a rule) was passed in 2011 too and revoked within a few days. I was there!

      This law will be very tough to implement no one obeys the law even after a couple of fine paid they will curse the police and the govt for this law and seek for escape route to bye-pass the route where the cops would be stationed ( I had seen this personally )
      I was mocked and told why are you wearing the helmet now? the police is not catching na ? then why you are wearing it ?

      My replay the helmet is for my head and not for the police .

        Yeah even in Gurgaon (Haryana), there is crazy rule like only driver needs to wear helmets pillion rider doesn't require helmet.. As if pillion rider's head is carved out of captain Americas shield... HUH!![emoji35][emoji35]

            In bhubaneswar it is compulsory for last 5 years.

            There has been a lot of checking going on in all major intersections and roads.

            Even during night after 10 pm police are using breath analyzer to check breath of drivers and riders.

              Still the govt didn't say anything regarding helmet standards. Still they think ISI is the best or they don't know about other standards. Thats the shame.

                And they will continue to harass folk regardless of them wearing even HJC,ICON,Airoh etc. Simply because it's not ISI!

                      Other helmet safety standards are DOT , SNELL , and ECE.
                      Its always better to sweat than to bleed. Wear helmet.

                        More than the governments its riders/pillions themselves who must learn the value of their lives. A life can't be as cheap as rs. 100!
                        Their are some basic human behaviors which can't be taught/enforced entirely. Like cleanliness, safety, compassion, values. Those must come from within.

                          ISI standards are very stringent if followed to the T. It's the el cheapo untested roadside crap which hurts the name.

                            I remember one incident when some policeman ask for a lift and while on the go telling me that my helmet doesn't have an ISI mark. I didn't argued with him and let him speak his words, afterwards he told me he fine at least 5-6 people a day for not to wear helmet / ISI marks.

                            When this cops/govt will understand that helmet standard is for human safety, which can be as good as DOT, ECE or ISI. So why a mark of ISI can judget the quality of helmet while the people doesn't knows about the rest?

                              Ladies and children below 12years were given concession from wearing helmet...

                              😈👌 how stupid those officials are.. Everyone do hurt in event of crash if not wearing helmet...
