So if the police wants to get money, they may deem the helmet brand/design or even the ISI logo on it to be fake and ask riders to provide the purchase receipt. What if the riders got the helmet a good amount of time in the past and has lost all the details about it, including the receipt? This is just like any other traffic law. If money is the order of the day, they would get it somehow.

While the Helmet rule is coming into play, bikers who wear full gear are harassed telling they are racers and cases are booked on them for illegitimate reasons. One such incident took place last week and 14 bikes were impounded and the bikers were made to pay fine irrespective of their arguments. Some things will never change until unless TN police are educated on gears and its importance , they would expect us to wear ISI marked helmets only , if not still be fined, else it would be for the gears. All these are money making techniques followed here in TN.

This one right? :O I am shocked now. Planned to ride there. Not going to that place. Hope nothing happens inside city like this. And it looks more like some personal vendetta. Just showing off power :O I can't believe they were detained for 9 hours and charged 1200 rs and still be mistreated. I think the group has to take this issue to higher authorities. And yes, if they want to money, they will get it somehow.

making helmet compulsory is a welcome step, a baby step though, neverthless a good thing.

only when everybody realizes that how important a helmet is, not for law byt for own safety, that we can call real awareness.

wait a minute, i thought wearing helmet is compulsory in India in all states and for everyone.

A lot of places are still uncovered like my City Varanasi... but its a good move by Tamilnadu government,though it should be followed by ladies as well. A good helmet not only saves your head but also enhances your street presence.
