Re: Two-Wheelers be the odd one out

For those uninformed about the entire odd-even matter: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal notes that the Delhi air is so polluted now, that without immediate steps taken now, we might be moving towards an emergency situation. The air is heavily polluted. A proposal is initiated whereby on a particular day, only vehicles with even number registration plate (For example: DL 01 RS 2222) will be used by people, and on the next day, only odd numbered vehicles (For example: DL 01 RS 2223) will be plied on the public roads. This applies to New Delhi, but vehicles with outstation number plates also have to comply. Tourers beware.
Many would argue that the solution implemented by the AK Government lacks logic, or its problematic or just plain funny, but we don't have much good ideas anyway.
This move, will definitely encourage commuters towards Delhi Metro, Public Buses, Car pool, etc and even if it gets implemented for 3 months only, there's a chance that many commuters would make a permanent shift in their routine to a better commuting method.
If anyone has better ideas, do shoot them to AAP FB Page and try your luck, let's see if its noted.
      ------------------

On topic:- I think its a good move to exclude 2 wheelers from this, because this would encourage 2 wheeler sales and usage, which would at least make enough space in the traffic if not less pollution. A commonly used bike is anyday more efficient than a car.

However, we can't be sure if it would result in lesser pollution over a longer run. Only proper research statistics can clarify this.

only someone who has never faced delhi public transport would be sadistic enough to force this on hapless commoners (because, of course the CM and his friends would all have 2 or more cars).
take a note of this point, if delhi govt goes ahead with this stupidity there would be daily fatalities on the metro due to the inhuman crush load.

The ban on registration of new diesels more than 2000 cc is also useless, because the new vehicles being launched are BS IV, they are anyways not going to contribute much to the pollution.
we need laws similar to those in Singapore where all vehicles more than 10 yrs old are recycled/removed through a system of permits. something similar needs to be IMPLEMENTED to take control.

but the easiest and fastest way to reduce vehicular air pollution is simply ENFORCING the PUC norms. How many times have you seen traffic police turning a blind eye towards vehicles spewing smoke by the cartloads?

Re: Two-Wheelers be the odd one out

This sort of policy was enforced in China during the Beijing Olympics. I think a few months before the games started, they had this implemented. It did reduce the pollution level in Beijing at that time. But I don't think it was continued after that, but I could be wrong.

Thing is, it worked in China because they had a better public transport and infrastructure unlike what we have here. This will most probably fail and will not be implemented for long.

This will only create more revenue to the cops.

A rule similar to this ( mandatory helmets) was implemented here, but look what happened. For the first few weeks cops were in every corner looking for helmet less head's. People were fined left and right. Now I don't see any one enforcing it like before. More and more people in signals have their helmets on the tank right in front of the cops and no one asks anything.

In this country rules like this are bound to fail. Mark my words, someone will file a case against this rule in the first week it comes into force.

haha i think there is already a PIL which was filed, it has been set aside by the court saying that atleast let it get implemented before launching PILs against the ruling

Odd-Even Rule for Two-Wheelers might come up in a week

Two-Wheelers in Delhi which were earlier kept out of odd-even rule to be enforced by 2016 may have to follow the rule too, a member of Aam Aadmi Party has indicated.

Adarsh Shastri, AAP MLA told NDTV that if there are enough buses on the road, Delhi government may review the exemption granted to two-wheelers and they will have follow the rule too.

The Odd-Even Rule by Delhi, government will be implemented on a trial basis between January 1 and 15. During the 15-day trial period, two-wheelers, women drivers accompanied by children up to the age of 12 and CNG-certified vehicles will be exempted under the scheme including President, Prime Minister, chief ministers and governors.

The implementation hasn't even begun and all the 'discussions' on how its going to fail and what not.
Come on guys, there has to be some starting point and then improved over a period of time (now don't measure time in seconds, but it could take a few years). Most of the discussions I see in the various media seem to be all whining and complaining (including the delhi cops, politico's etc..). To me it seems that some forces are bent on giving the Delhi CM a tough time.
If you try to reign in the diesels, the diesel community will come up in arms
Try the two wheeler's, same result
Petrol cars, yes again.. every category has a bunch of folks who wouldn't want them 'restricted'
Sadly it's the mentality of us citizens that's doing more harm than the vehicles!
Well if you want clean air then you gotta sacrifice something and learn from the issues that would crop up and slowly improve the public infrastructure, so that in the near future things fall in place at least to an extent.
If anyone has a better idea, do try and make it public.. it's easy to whine complaint by hiding behind a computer , so try doing something that would make a positive impact.
Did someone say 'swachh bharat' ? The only swach bharat i've seen is people posting their 'swachness' on social networks, and the next day spitting and throwing garbage around. And now I've to pay 0.5 cess for this !

Agreed with all points. But what I find stupid with implementation of this system are the Exceptions that they have made. If they are implementing an odd-even system they should have just applied it across the entire range of Motorvehicles.

For those who said let it atleast work why to point of logic fails before it even starts!!! well we have a office in Delhi & currently have 4 company-cars & some top managers who have a car scheme from the company. So what happened when this odd-even rule was announced...... just yesterday our delhi office company-car fleet grew to 7 cars!! yes thats 3 more cars, and few managers who have company alloted cars have also bought cars on their own - as per my info atleast 5 of them.

So now there are 3 + 5 = 8 more cars on the delhi roads than it was necessary!!!

not everybody is as well off as your company or its executives. if 5 executives have bought one car each, then i dont think its possible all 5 cars will on the road on a given day! so yes, number of cars sold might go up (good for car companies).
yes, a few can afford two cars but not a middle class person who ends up putting a significant amount of money to even buy their first (and only) car and drives it for years.

Let them start the roll out first and fine tune it later. It's a challenge for anyone but it has to start first and as I said, its not something that can be solved overnight.. it will take a few years.
