People in public transport feared the worst, expecting to get mobbed during rush hour. Fortunately that wasn't the case. And this is on a Monday, after three days off. Normally, commutes take more time on Mondays.

I have no personal experience to share of my own, since i live 100 metres away from my office I walk!

Yes, the roads have become congestion free to an extent except at major points such as Ashram, etc but still much better than before.

However, metro is not so congestion free. Long queues at entrance or at ticket counters, congestion inside the trains is a problem (personal experience)

Okay. Which route do you travel on? My friends who told me use the yellow and blue line.

          lmao, good job Delhi

Simply limiting the number of vehicles will not clear up the air. How do they plan on filtering the already polluted air? Oh wait! They never thought about that did they? Or did they think the pollutants in the air will magically disappear?

They will need a massive air purifier like this one in Canada: (Its a rendering, its still in process of manufacture)

OR implement small scale ones at various locations like:

Although a very nice idea has it been implemented in Canada and working?

Amidst all this : BHEL commissions first 600MW thermal unit in Telangana - Moneycontrol.com

All efforts are outweighed by such power plants.

How many units of Electric power do you people consume?

                Last month I spent :

143 kWh : household (lighting, mixer-grinder, geyser, washing-machine, etc (no AC))
242 kWh : Submersed water pumps (both sump & bore-well(800 ft); they run supply water to 10 families(3 buildings))

Sadly in all these 3 buildings(family friends) no solar powered water heaters and back-up power system.

My first priority(this year) is to get Solar water heater and back-up power system for our building (4 families).

Unlike liquid/solid pollutants, gaseous pollutants are global responsibility. India even after being second largest country by population stands at 20th place by emission per capita: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...xide_emissions

India stands at a better position than most developed countries:

We as citizens may need to indulge ourselves more into Solar source.

The GOI is not making any serious attempts to encourage renewable energy consumption, India is one of very few countries with a practical electric car but guess what, it's priced at 5L which makes it uneconomical for most. They are not even encouraging solar heaters for homes which should easily reduce to burden on state electricity suppliers and help reduce emissions but nope.
Agreed that we still have to use coal since we have plenty of it and it's cheap but unless the government takes the initiative with good subsidies for these causes not much will happen because capitalism left to itself won't care for quality of life.

So did the production in every official sector I believe; initial dip is often misleading.

I'm little sceptic at exact 25%; 21%, 23% or even 27% would have been more realistic in statistics. I would be happy to look at day-to-day sales in this 15 days window.

Okay, didn't see any numbers being put up for that anywhere.

Yes absolutely, this seems a very ballpark figure put together by a journo by a back of the envelope calculation. Concrete statistics would be far more useful. Though where there is smoke they must be some amount of fire!

Re: Odd-Even Rule for Two-Wheelers might come up in a week

discovered a strange phenomenon, people who used to travel to work by metro/bus have started traveling by car because they are afraid of the mad rush. especially true for ladies and older people. they simply car pool in each other's car.
result is instead of 2 people traveling by public transport there are 2 more cars on the road.

I dont see pollution would be improved by this, even if I discount the sudden spike, which is probably due to weather conditions.

could not see any lesser congestion on the roads but the metro is surely overcrowded. in some places the queue had overflowed out from underground into the road above !! good that they did this experimentation during winter, if this was summer there would have been deaths on the metro.

verdict from me : massively improve public transport before bringing out harebrained schemes from the hat.

meanwhile the media outlets run the so-called 'businessman buddies' namely CNN-IBN, firstpost and NDTV are all gali-galoching the central govt and covering AAP's every move as if it's the ruling party in all states and UT's in the country, and not just of a single city.

Mumbai and Bangalore are now pondering on implementing Odd-Even if the capital shows improvement in this trial period.
