On what basis can they charge the same rate as the taxis. The taxis provide at least a bit of safety and comfort. People who travel in Uber moto must be charged considerably less than the taxi rates.

What are the bikes they are planning to bring the services on? I think the the picture of the bike here is only for demo purpose.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

With pillion helmet rule in effect in Bangalore, the uberMoto riders will need to roam with a helmet..

True. And that's good, but I doubt how many people would want to wear those shared helmets. Hygiene plays a role here.
                Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Uber and Ola Launches Motorcycle Taxi Service in Bangalore

Is this even for real ? Who would leave the comfort of a taxi and travel on a moped or scooters. Motorcycle owners are unable to keep up with the helmet rule, forget about the pillion. I seriously doubt, people would opt for motorcycle taxi. One more reason for the failure of motorcycle taxi would be they are charging close to car taxi fare and these.motorcycles are not even half as comfortable than taxi.

Disposable bandana and hygienic helmet, it is very hard to visualize this thing. A single helmet won't fit every passanger and nor would ola or uber provide new bandanas to every passenger.

Earlier there were speculations regarding motorcycle ambulance, motorcycle firefighters and now this. God knows what will be next!!!

                    Seriously a crap idea, IMHO

                    Cheers,
                    Sanjay

This might actually work. For people looking for cheap travel, this would be a great deal in saving money. If it comes to mumbai, i would be definitely using it.

                      Reasons,

                      1. Would save money. 2-3 rs per kms is dirt cheap. Rick and taxis charge 10-15 rs per km.

                      2. Quick movement in traffic.

                      3. Lesser overall traffic. Since we find that most people travellig in taxis are usually alone, they might save for others on road space by using a bike instead

Personally, i think the idea is a super one, if they market it well and execute it properly. Like luggage, and safety issues.

In latest news, RTO has started seizing these 2-wheeled taxis. Reason being, they run white plates and not yellow as required by commercial vehicles.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Apparently not. They forgot the basic that insurance companies will refuse to pay any claims if they understand that a private white board vehicle was being used for commercial purposes. This puts both the rider and the pillion passenger at risk.

By seizing a token (4-5) no.s of bikes, the authorities have just reminded them of this fact. And this bike taxi is not a new concept. If I remember correctly, bike taxis (with yellow plates) have been running in Goa for quite a few years now.
