  • Kawasaki Versys 650 launch in India

    Dear fellow riders,

It just might be a joyous year for those who like to visit the land far far away whilst enjoying the trip being close to their two wheeled machine. The Sports Tourer ofcourse.

Currently in India , for the likes of above, a great option is the Ninja 650r and of course the Benelli TNT 600GT. Some also might state the Honda 650F in the category but in My honest opinion the three stated above are great highway mile munchers. Nothing really that satisfies the hunger to go on those skimpy roads with a thin layer of 'dark matter'. Not necessarily off road but a bit more versatility, a bit more comfort, and a bit more capability to carry some serious luggage. This is where the next big thing comes in. the Versys 650.

In the US, It carries the same Engine as the sisters ER6N and Ninja 650R. yet holds a boisterous rider position, larger fuel tank and adjustable forks with diamond tube frame and an option to add saddle bags [ Versys 650 LT ].

US SPEC COMPARO : VERSYS 650 vs NINJA 650R

With high hope, I expect this launch to be soon. A torquy , mile munching, pot hole soaking versatile machine such as the Versys 650 will be a strong contender. While the Indian varient is yet to be finalized I think this already sits well in our market.

    Ride safe guys.

    UPDATE:

Christmas just became even more merry as Kawasaki has officially played another strong card out of it deck.

With the success they have had with Ninja 650r, they have now officially added the Versys 650 to their stable to keep the roll going. And for not so measly but rather aggressive pricing of 6.6 lacs , you can bring her home to your's.

As of now, she comes clothed in all black but maybe we hear of new colors being introduced soon? I sure do hope so!

So, for all those who decide to have the companionship of the versys650. Please do share your ownership review!

    Cheers, Ride Safe! Ride Hard!

Its no longer speculative, its pretty much confirmed. Dealer training is taking place this week for the Versys. Expected price is estimated to be around 6 lakhs. Assembly has already begun. Launch is "supposedly"scheduled this month or early Jan.

Maybe when I am 50+ and my back no longer likes to crouching tiger hidden dragon position of a sports bike maybe I might get one. The pretend ADV bikes(Not the actual go anywhere ADV ones) are best suited for Indian roads with potholes and war like craters though. Suspension can soak up the bumps without needing to yank heavily on the brakes while cruising.

re: Kawasaki Versys 650 launch in India

some of the glaring limitations of the N650:

            1. ridiculously weak headlamps [u cannot even host a candle-light dinner with those lit - they are that useless]
            2. brakes are devoid of any feedback or they provide excessively spongy feedback [the stock brake-lines r the culprit here & not the brake-pads]
            3. low ground clearance especially due to the underbelly exhaust - easily bottoms-out if one is not "really" careful over our famed desi underbelly scalding humps / rumblers. if u r riding 2-up - you got to be infinitely careful while going over speed breakers.

add to that a pathetic & appalling service network - yes, there are "PBK's" a dime a dozen all over the country, but truly knowledgeable technicians a scarce to find, beyond imagination.

99% of the company trained "technicians" [if one may dare call them so] rely on the Indiana Jones School of Problem Identification & Resolution.

there are several N650 owners groups who, over time, have learned the things the hard way & they r the ones who provide support & directives on whats wrong & how cud it be fixed!

despite all of the above, the N650 is a very very very forgiving motorcycle & in a true sense is the best 650 sport-tourer one can buy for this price-point. its a gem of a machine that will take u from point A to point B with such finesse that you will keep finding excuses to ride it even more, all the time.

now, with the V650 about to be released in Mid-Jan 2016 [...closely followed by the launch of Vulcan-S-650 in the subsequent quarter] - if IKM & Bajaj have addressed some or all of the issues above, there will be an exodus of folks taking the plunge from the N650 to the V650

the on-paper specs-sheet appears to have ticked all the right boxes... however how good is the real-deal, can be found only after an in-flesh sortie.

as on date, the entire N650 fraternity is waiting to get their hands on the bike in-flesh - rightfully so because, both - the IKM & Bajaj - have given all N650 owners a raw-deal, from year 2011 - not the right thing to do at all!

Overdrive predicts the price difference b/w Versys and N650 will be more than 1 Lakh. In the US non abs N650 retails for $7200 and Versys 650 for $8000 which comes to approx Rs. 50000 difference. Let's hope the bike gets launched at a reasonable price point.

Looks good overall but dislike the routing of the exhaust manifold. I would have liked double disc brakes in front.

The Sports Tourer segment in India does not have too many options. So, this is a welcome news.
How they price it will be interesting though.
