Why target any bike!! Those dont need huge parking space, enormous space on road, doesnt pollute much.
They could have put the taxes on bikes 10 L price segment or so. Also increasing the taxes on SUVs/ 5m long cars, would be logical. But now a days bikes under 3-4 lakhs are used for general commuting purpose, more than luxury.

So owning a Bike about a Lakh, meaning any Bike above 200cc(even some I50 cc) is luxury now ?
Whats wrong with the government, why are we going back in time ?

Well said, the government instead of improving infrastructure just want to make money for upcoming elections they feel someone who is paying more than a lakh for a bike is rich and would not mind paying a bit extra.
                It's really frustrating...

Didn't supreme court overturned Karnataka rule to pay road-tax for other state's motorcycles.

Just buy them from outside Karnataka if you're from one; as for Karnataka people/citizens they need to pick their MLAs wisely.

It will likely go once GST comes in by July.

Under GST only VAT & Service tax are consolidated. I don't think luxury tax comes under GST.

Road tax will remain outside the GST umbrella. So no luck there.

Sounds like the most logical choice.

A very shrewd move as there will be hardly any protest against it. Sad for us.
