    Motorcycles to attract 28% GST, 3% Cess on Luxury Bikes!

    Yesterday it was announced that under the new taxation regime, motorcycles have been slotted into the highest tax slab of 28%. Luxury bikes will pay a 3% cess.

    Luxury/ premium bikes as per the govt. are bikes with an engine capacity of 350cc or more!

    The good thing is that the rate of tax will be uniform across the nation, unlike currently where every state has a different tax rate and a whole host of other taxes, which would make the effective tax rate anywhere between 24-35%. The reason why bikes in Karnataka would be far more expensive than in Delhi.

    What about the import tax for CBU's. Is there any change to that tax rate?

      Does it mean the d390 will cost the same in Bangalore , pune or any other state.. also would it lead to decrease in the current on road of d390?

        When u say it will be uniform does that mean all prices will raise to a certain level or drop to a certain level? Like prices in Karnataka will drop or remain same while increasing the prices in other states?

          Motorcycles of more than 350 cc engine capacity will attract a total of 31 per cent tax under the GST regime, same as the tax incidence on private aircraft and luxury yachts.

          According to the rate structure finalised by the GST Council here, all cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles including moped as well as personal aircraft and luxury yachts will attract a peak Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 28 per cent.




          All classes of cars and SUVs, as well as motorcycles of more than 350 cc engine capacity, will also attract an additional cess.

          The cess for motorcycles with more than 350 cc engine has been kept at 3 per cent, taking the total incidence of taxation to 31 per cent.

              Taxes will be the same. But then ex showroom prices may differ from state to state. And like aditya_YZF-R15 said. Not sure if I should laugh or cry on this.

                Ex-showroom prices should remain same in all states due to GST. Road tax and other RTO charges may vary state to state and thus On-Road may vary state to state.

                      We earn to pay the govt for broken roads and poor essential supplies.. now buying a motorcycle is a luxury.. no wonder nobody wants to pay taxes.. bloody parasites.

                          I am of the view that the GST bill was passed to favor businesses rather than consumers. The respective state govts may raise other taxes if the GST bill reduces their revenue.
