I think you have taken my comment in a different manner. I said out of sheer frustration that Pune's traffic control should be given to Military for few months. I haven't said make India an autocratic country ruled by some military dictatorship. If you think you can make Pune's citizens behave in traffic through Gandhian means, then you are welcome to give it a try.Originally posted by The Monk View PostYup, let's make India a military state. I have clearly seen examples of political people and local goons in their SUVs/Water Tankers or on their Bullets openly flouting the rules and above that insulting the traffic police. They use very rough language against police and offer bribes to police in open manner saying things like, "we know your level - take these 200 bucks and shut your mouth" etc.
IF this is the way they treat police, I unfortunately see no solution in near future to this chaos and bad attitude. Once you have a very strong hand of law which can't be bribed or brow beaten the way current police can be - then Pune guys will improve. More or less this is the situation in most of the cities or semi-urban areas. Rural area can be worse but due to less population and less vehicles, the problem is not as bad as bigger towns.
Anyway, this is a biker forum so I am not trying to provide solutions here and it was just a comment from me.

I agree with The Monk here. Military rule is certainly not the way out. But I also understand that you never actually meant it.Originally posted by jeevan.chaukar View PostI think you have taken my comment in a different manner. It was just to exemplify the pathetic state of affairs with traffic rules in Pune and somehow I will not disagree.
however the government should certainly recognise DOT and ECE by now with so many brands offering the same. I guess xbhp officials can try to take this up with the government given the reach that might have as an active media in the motor vehicle industry.

Re: ISIHMA demands Govt. to be made Helmets mandatory in all over India
Making Helmets mandatory is a good sign, but banning helmets with International safety certification is utter non-sense. I would not throw away my MT for a puny ISI marked helmet. This rule is just forcing me to find a way around to buy ISI stickers and pasting on my Helmet and not get caught by cops. I can't downgrade for these idiotic shunning of Globally standardized helmets for ISI helmets rule. I guess from Feb 1 onwards the cops will first stop the bikers with international helmets as they are easily identified for easy and faster moolah and let go of those fake ISI helmets.

Re: ISIHMA demands Govt. to be made Helmets mandatory in all over India
I'm not convinced there isn't something else going on behind the scenes. Could be the pressure from the Indian helmet lobby. Or could have something to do with revenue collection. It appears to me that the Bangalore Traffic Police has been pretty aggressive lately in collecting fines (Bengaluru traffic cops collect Rs 102 crore in fines) and helmets are the easiest way to catch people. That and I know that in my commute there's a blind spot (so you can't see the cops waiting for you ahead), straight road, downhill, on the ring road, with no cross vehicle/pedestrian traffic where the speed limit has been set to 40. Pretty sure that's about revenue, not safety.Originally posted by JS16 View PostThis was just released today. Seriously what is wrong with these people?
If it makes you feel any better, it happens around the world - Red-light cameras are producing profits more than protecting drivers
It's all about the money, honey? I dunno. Could be wrong. In any case, I don't like this uneven enforcement of safety rules. Everyone has ISI helmets but you're still letting people get away with driving on the wrong side of the road? When the body wanders, the mind rests.

Unfortunately they are not doing anything wrong. They are as a matter of fact simply enforcing the Helmet rule and as per guidelines the helmets have to be ISI certified, the certification is provided by BIS.
The problem is, BIS has NOT approved ECE or DOT or SNELL yet. So COPs have the authority to fine you for not wearing an ISI labelled helmet since they havent even heard of ECE or DOTFor My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

Couldn't agree more. This is all about the money rather than the safety. Because those ISI marked helmets don't really protect the head, not at all.Originally posted by EverShine View PostI'm not convinced there isn't something else going on behind the scenes. But they should get this fixed, people buy expensive helmets to be safer. Or else it's like Bangalore Police knows more than FIA in terms of safety. LOL

Re: ISIHMA demands Govt. to be made Helmets mandatory in all over India
February 1st is just around the corner and there hasn't been any clear communication from the concerned authorities about the state of usage of helmets that are DOT and ECE certified. I think that we should take this seriously if we don't want to be harassed in the coming months.
I suggest that we start a petition regarding this through change.org or ichangemycity. We need an in depth discussion about this issue and the possible solutions before we go forward. I am looking for people who can help me start this petition.

Yes we should definitely raise our voice. Can we get started or it has already started somewhere? Even we should do some sort of mass gathering city wise and discuss regarding this serious issue.Originally posted by nealtitusthomas View PostFebruary 1st is just around the corner and there hasn't been any clear communication from the concerned authorities about the state of usage of helmets that are DOT and ECE certified. We cannot go and buy some cheap ISI helmet just to avoid traffic fines. Please get united.

I don't mean to be complaining, but I'm afraid that this petition isn't worded well. We need to highlight the issue at hand systematically and propose a viable solution. This will ensue that people take us seriously and that our petition gains traction.Originally posted by tanishq View PostPetition has already been started...
