Kawasaki did have a Ninja 400R in 2011, but they....guess what, used the Ninja 650R's already heavy engine and body for the purpose.
The result? Well, it was a 43bhp 400cc which weighed 203 kgs. Like 650R, it too had a 270 crank, which meant focus on torque, and less of the "hum" of a multicylinder in low revs.
Needless to say, it wasn't exactly wet dream of a lot of bikers, although it got the work done.
The good thing Kawasaki can do with this new 400, is just to make a bigger Ninja 300, honestly.
The same 360* equal firing order, the same high revs, the same practicality as a Ninja 300, just bigger and torquier.
What would be even more awesome, would be to have 4 cylinders!
But that's highly unlikely, seeing how people will expect a 16000 rpm redline, with Euro 4 compliance.

But its heavy, really heavy for the old 650R looks. Considering the 400R was a sleeved down 650 , the new one maynot be , nor a bored 300, since 300 itself is a bored 250R. A new lighter engine? Probably.
An early 2018 India launch is what I heard last. The 300 is also on discount now across India. Nov 6 is the date for 400.

250 for Indonesia, and 400 for rest of the world. Both same looks. I dont know what will the 300 do, mostly production is stopped

Hmm, only 6 more hp from an additional 100 cc. The tuning seems to be for more torque down low = its not a "sport" bike, more of a commuter/tourer.200 | 300 | 1200 BOXERComment
