Originally posted by PrinceCruise View PostI honestly believe this is just an experiment by Suzuki to test how things fare with masses before they introduce a mid-range Intruder.
What's to experiment? There's already the success of the Harley Street 750 (despite borrowing brakes from a wheelchair and butt-ugly looks). Then there's the UM cruisers at 280cc, an entire company that makes nothing but cruisers, and they're not bankrupt or anything (so far). And of course, the Royal Enfields, all of which are almost textbook cruiser-like motorcycles in terms of how they "feel" to ride. And RE Thunderbirds, despite all their various mechanical problems traditional of RE, are not exactly rare, are they?
And do they think Indians don't want a midsize engine bike? Look at the story of KTM in India. Enough said, full stop. The only reason the Dominar failed was 1) really bad marketing, trying to take on Royal Enfield with a bike that was trying to do everything at once and ended up being a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none; and 2) there was no good reason to buy it when the Duke was so similar to it, and just a stone's throw away, and also something like 60 kilos lighter.
Then there's Suzuki themselves. Internationally, they make all sorts of cruisers and tourers in all engine sizes (much like Honda). Aside from the gigantic Intruder sold abroad, there's the fantastic and successful Boulevard series in the sub 1000cc engine category. All tried-and-tested, good cruisers.
So it's not like Suzuki have no idea how to make a cruiser, or how to make a midsize cruiser even.
Yet, they seem to think that all Indians want is a cheap-as-dirt sensible commuting vehicle, just two wheels and a microsocopic engine in between, and not much else (again, much like Honda).
As best I can tell, Suzuki's strategy here seems to be to market an ugly cruiser to the demographic of people that think the Avenger 150 has "too much power" and "looks too nice" and yet would spend close to a lac on an underpowered barge. And I say "barge" because anyone that's tried to needle a cruiser in heavy Indian traffic (UM, Thunderbird, Diavel, any Harley, etc) knows that you sacrifice that nimble agility when you go for the cool, laid-back relaxed feel of a cruiser. The advantage, usually, is dollops of torque to shoot you down the highway at any speed you feel like, in fantastic comfort. THAT's what a cruiser is, at its heart and soul. And you can only do that with a reasonably big engine, like 300 cc and above at least.
So what's the advantage in a 150cc cruiser bloated down with all that unnecessary fairing? A cheap price? It costs more than the Avenger 220 for god's sake!
Seriously, who is the target market here? What kind of customer exists here that would opt for something like this?
I'm pretty much insulted that Suzuki thinks this is what the Indian market wants.

Of course that is *EXACTLY* what Indians want. Hero has built its entire empire on it.Originally posted by marcussantiago View PostYet, they seem to think that all Indians want is a cheap-as-dirt sensible commuting vehicle, just two wheels and a microsocopic engine in between, and not much else (again, much like Honda).
Honda tested the waters with the CBR 150 and 250. On Xbhp itself, with the so-called "enthusiast" crowd, you have people fixated on the fact that the CBR250 is so overpriced, lets buy cheaper alternatives.
Yamaha knows 150 cc engines with plastic will sell and continue to sell. Suzuki is just doing the same.
Our mentality dictates that if there is a bike that is 100 bucks cheaper and has half a horsepower or a big fairing extra, that's the one which will be bought. Refinement, quality etc be damned. Naturally, all bike manufacturers are pandering to this very mindset - give the public the cheap thrills they want.
The enthusiast can save and buy the real Intruder. For the masses, this will sell very well indeed.200 | 300 | 1200 BOXER

In recent times I can remember of a bike so hideous, I puked out of my eyeballs, called the last variant of Karizma ZMR. People still bought that one though in not so good numbers, so I guess this little "beauty" also has chances to be sold within a similar customer base.Originally posted by marcussantiago View PostSeriously, who is the target market here? CBR250 *is* overpriced in 2017 when and if you compare it to alternatives available and it's not like Honda is still the holy grail of refined motors.Originally posted by tanay View PostHonda tested the waters with the CBR 150 and 250. Also, if you're seriously comparing Intruder 150 with the likes of R15 series, I can only laugh. No, I'm not offended because I own one, but after owning one I realized Engineering is a funny thing and we people are still to get over the cubic capacity part.
