  • CBR 250 R: Prices announced

Honda has announced the price for 2018 CBR 250 R. It will be Rs. 1.63 lakh for non ABS version and Rs. 1.93 lakh for ABS version. There will be 4 colours.

The quarter-litre bike was taken off the shelves when the BS-IV emission norms kicked in. Now, with the 2018 model, it is finally compliant with the emissions standards.

While it remains mechanically unchanged from before, the bike now boasts an all-LED headlight unit that adds to its visual appeal. The 2018 CBR 250R gets redesigned graphics and is now available in four colours – grey-orange, grey-green, yellow and red. The Honda offering continues to be powered by the 249.6cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor which produces 26.5hp and 22.9Nm of torque. Output figures remain similar to the BS-III engine and the motor will be paired to the same six-speed gearbox as earlier.

    Welcome back legend.
Meanwhile, Honda brought a non-cosmetic change too- an all new LED headlamp. Plus the BS4 engine. Awesome.
And it still weighs lesser than the twin cylinder Ninja 400, so we're safe from need for upgrade, for few more years at least..
And its a reliable machine.. smooth as butter, so why upgrade. And we're hardly close to the awesome 10 or so years of no-upgrade Karizma...
In fact, some bikes, when upgraded go slightly worse than before. (Example= Unicorn to CBZ Xtreme 150). If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Also, its one of the more powerful domestic bikes out there, only surpassed by Duke 390/RC 390/ Dominar/ RR310/ Duke 250/ Mahindra Mojo, etc. which are just few bikes. So, why even think about upgrade?

Guys, Let's try our best to justify Honda's awesome (re-)launch.

            Their underlying message is clear,

We can and will bring the latest and greatest updates to rich folks with Africa Twins, 650Fs and Fireblades.

You middle class folks and college youth, just take the overpriced CBR250R or leave it.

Guys doesn't the new colours and graphics job on the CBR remind you of that 40's something pot belly uncle trying to fit in with millennial urban crowd. [emoji39]

The CBR sticker on the tank and partly on fairing looks inspired from Suzuki Gixxer SF here..

OK that means Hornet & cbr 250 both have same rear tire.

Re: CBR 250 R: Prices announced

Some people criticise Honda for re-relaunching an old model of 2011 each time with new paint scheme. And this time the concept remained same with addition of LED and BS IV. But I believe when CBR was originally launched it was quite well ahead of it's time and still it makes a lot of sense. It has Fairing, Dual channel ABS, Honda reliability and what not for a daily safe commuting and long touring. With newly launched bikes we get better tyres, probably a more informational console and few cosmetics. Then why not choose this bike? I'm owning CBR from last 4.5 years and never felt it has backdated nor I need an upgrade in same segment.

The only thing which I find difficult now is the seating posture, as it does give me neck pain after a stretch of 100 or more kms at a stretch, but that's me, a lot other people are touring quite well on this bike.

I truely appreciate Honda for relaunching CBR 250 in old fashion with new LED, but it would have been great if they have changed the tyres as well. IMO they are just pushing the old batches of CBR with LED headlamp and BS IV norm changes and that's enough for general market at least for next few years. Overall welcome back Legend!

Some people will ask manufacturer why they don't bring the latest and greatest machinery to India. But when manufacturers do it(see R3), these same people run and hide and don't even buy it and make manufacturers think twice about repeating their mistakes. No manufacturer wants to sell 1000 units of bikes a year. They spend more money homologating and shipping those things than they make selling 1k units a year.

As for the local models, look at the sales charts. 300-600 units is the monthly average for all the bikes in the 250-400cc class. Its not a healthy figure compared to what they sell in much smaller SE-Asian countries where the same products sell in 1000 units a month.

When manufacturers say they want to target 10k units a year, they surely hope it will atleast be 90% near it. When it doesn't meet the sales then its hard to convince the management to go ahead with any radical plans.

The fact that there are people who think 1.6 lakhs for a 250cc is "overpriced" is hilarious. When I bought mine in 2011, the std brake model was 1.4 and the abs version at 1.7. Surely in 7 years inflation would catch up to every single product on sale right from factory expenditure to workers salaries. We don't earn the same pay we did 7 years ago. So why would anyone expect a motorcycle to be cheaper than it was 7 years ago?

True, this is why Indian market is lagging bigger bikes. But in our economy majority people cannot think about a bike even for a lakh. We cannot think of investing in big bikes even after earning a year or so, whereas economy in foreign countries allow them to spend just few months saving into a decent sized machine. Anyways lets not pull this topic further, this will continue in India without any doubt.

When i bought the ABS bike for 2 lakhs otr back in 2011, I had a lot of people making stupid faces at me when they would stop me at a redlight to ask questions. A lot of them told me I should have bought a Nano or a used car for that sort of money. Fast forward to 2018, people haven't come to grip with the fact that motorcycles today(even 150cc) are costing 1 lakh rupees.

As long as this mentality prevails, no manufacturer will want to dive into the 250+cc segment for a long time. The ones that will manufacture locally are the ones that want to export to EU/US market from India since they don't have any plant in other Asian countries where labor cost is equally low and they can sell and make a good profit.

The HX250R project was shelved for the same reason even though Hero could easily price it below 2 lakhs if they had guaranteed sales potential. The market is too saturated right now to sell decent numbers.
