  • BS III vehicle sales banned by Supreme Court from 1st April

Supreme court has banned the sales of vehicles with Bharat Stage III emission standards from 1st April 2017. No new registration will be processed by Regional Transport Authority (RTO) for BS III vehicles and also no vehicle manufacturers are allowed to do sales from 1st of April.

Many manufacturing companies approached Supreme Court to extend the date as well as to proceed the registration process after 1st of April but not the production from 1st April and also they have pointed as the same process allowed by Indian government when there were new technologies introduced in 2005 and 2010.

As per the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) report, the companies had a stock of 8,24,275 BS III compliant vehicles which included 96,724 commercial vehicles, 6,71,308 two wheelers, 40,048 three wheelers and 16,198 cars. Though, SC order by Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta states that taking measures in controlling the pollution and taking care of public health is more important than commercial interests.

The Supreme Court has considered the Bhure Lal-headed Environment Protection Control Authority's report which explains that compare to BS III vehicles, BS IV vehicles emit 80% lower particulate emissions which result in a huge difference in terms of pollution control.

Re: BS III vehicle sales banned by Supreme Court from 1st April

I read this news update a few hours ago and was wondering if the judgement will be changed to 'accommodate' the current stock pile of bs3 vehicles.
If not, how are these manufacturers going to cope up with such a huge inventory of unsaleable vehicles.. hmm. Some possibilities that come to my mind:
    1. These manufacturers might somehow get the judgement modified to minimize the blow to their wallets.
    2. Export whatever is possible to other markets where less stringent emission norms are in place.
    3. 'Modify' these vehicles to 'meet' bs4 standards (won't be surprised if at a later time something like the vw dieselgate scam opens up)
    4. Take a hit i.e. loss and try to minimize the loss by increasing prices of future vehicles, spares & service charges ?
    Let's wait and watch.

So, does it mean RTO will not take bribe and let the BSIII vehicles register. How does the RTO even find out if the vehicle is complying to the pollution norms.

Re: BS III vehicle sales banned by Supreme Court from 1st April

Just received a call from Mahindra Showroom Pune (Solum) that they're selling mojo all variants at a plain 25,000 Rs discount.

He further added that this offer is to clear the BS3 stocks. The offer stands till 5pm of 31st March.

So, old prices were : OTR Pune mojo standard = 2 lakh and Tourer = 2.19lakh

After the slash it becomes 1.75 OTR for standard and 1.96 for tourer.

I know this showroom personally and have had many test rides. Information is supposed to be genuine.

Since this is a distress sale, interested buyers can also pinch the seller into throwing a few goodies along

        Go, grab 'em!!

Re: BS III vehicle sales banned by Supreme Court from 1st April

Is the registration halted only on vehicles sold by manufacturers or even if one buys a used BS3 vehicle and gets it transferred to his name?

when you buy a new vehicle, it's bs rating is provided on the paperwork. and even the rc (atleast in ts/ap states) will have the bs rating mentioned on it.
supreme court says that vehicles invoiced/bought on or before march 31 2017, can be registered after march 31st. It's only that manufacturers cannot sell new bs3 vehicles from april 1 on-wards.
But who knows, even after april 1 some showrooms might create predated fake invoices and... you know what i mean

You can buy a used vehicle bs2/bs3 whatever.. and get it transferred in your name even after april 1, no issues.
Only the sale of new bs3 vehicles is banned after april 1. If you buy a new bs3 vehicle before april 1, you can still get it registered after april 1.

That was exactly my point, dealer has a tie-up with a rto, sells the vehicle to customers (anyways customers dont care much about the BS stuffs), gives them discount, goes for regn the vehicle. Bribes RTO, changes the BS3 to BS4.

For every BSIII Honda CBR150 and CBR250, Honda provides a BSIII Navi for free.

Hero Motorcycles become cheap due to BS III ruling of Supreme Court.

Good news for people planning to buy Hero bikes and scooters. Showrooms in our City are offering big discounts due to ban on BS III vehicles post 31st March 2017.
The list I received is as below
                        1) All Hero Scooters (Duet, Maestro Edge, Pleasure): Rs. 13,500/- discount
                        2) HF Deluxe series: Rs. 5000/- discount
                        3) Splendor +: Rs. 5000/- discount
                        4) All other BS 3 motorcycles (Glamour, Xpro, ismart 100) etc.: Rs. 18500/- discount.

So its good time if you wish to buy and you have ready Cash.

Check in your City if they are also offering similar discounts.

*Important* Post ban i doubt if RTO will do passing for old stock bikes. So be careful and check before buying.

What are the vehicles that has been already upgraded to BS4? i mean, It would be useful for all of the new buyers if seniors and experts could compile a list of motorcycles manufactured under BS4 norm already.
