  • Honda CBR650R coming to India: Bookings open for INR 15,000/-

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. today announced bookings open for its new model, Honda CBR650R in the sports middleweight segment. Revealed at the 2018 EICMA Show in Milan, the CBR650R replaces CBR650F under Honda’s sports middleweight line up. And with the Make-in-India advantage, CBR650R will be attractively priced under Rs. 8 lacs.

Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd
said, “Less than 2 weeks after the national launch of CB300R, Honda is proud to unleash its second global blockbuster in the middle-weight segment under the Silver Wing-mark umbrella. After the 2019 global fun model line-up unveil in EICMA, Honda has now opened bookings for its new middle-weight sports machine CBR650R in India too. With an aggressive Fireblade inspired bodywork, strong dose of CBR sporting intent & intense power, Honda’s Make-in-India CBR650R will entice fun bikers of India like never before!”

The styling on the new Honda CBR650R takes direct cues from the Fireblade with its sharp, aggressive lines and extended side fairings plus the super-short rear section. The front fascia now features a narrow dual headlamp akin to the Fireblade with modern full LED lighting. It also gets a digital LCD display. The handlebars clip-on below the top yoke and the instruments feature a Gear Position and Shift Up indicator.

The engine on the new Honda CBR650R is a 649cc liquid cooled four-cylinder, DOHC 16-valve unit. It gets an Assist/Slipper Clutch and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which maintains rear wheel traction and can be switched off should the rider choose to. Other improvements include a 6 Kg lighter chassis when compared to its predecessor which is bound to enhance the agility of the new CBR650R.

Suspension duties are handled by an adjustable 41 mm Showa Separate Fork Function (SFF) USD forks up front. In the braking department the new Honda CBR650R gets a dual radial-mount calipers matching with a single-piston rear caliper. Dual channel ABS is also standard. And with the inline-4 engine and 4 exhaust downpipes sweeping together around the front of the engine, and the specially designed muffler are sure to give the new CBR650R a raspy exhaust note.

The CBR650R will be available in 2 colours - Grand Prix Red & Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic. Bookings are now open from Honda exclusive Wing World (listed ahead) outlets across India at INR 15,000/-.

We will be getting the 650, no 600 for us yet.
So the CBR650R is what we are being offered.

I wish they launch the naked version as well, the CB650R.

Why, can't you settle for half naked , this is best of both IMO

You can book it at the Honda wings dealers, the booking is just like booking any other bike.

For a certain breed of riders, once you’ve experienced the high-revving soul of a four, there’s no going back. That’s why we’re so pleased to offer our new CBR650R—a real sportbike built for the way we ride today, and powered by one of the best inline fours we’ve ever offered.
The power is instant, and it builds with an exhilarating rush. Smooth? Nothing can match a four for smoothness, especially a Honda four. The chassis, bodywork, and riding position are all designed to deliver a comfortable street ride, but still hold up when the going gets hot. In short, this bike is just plain fun to ride: light, nimble, and responsive without being a prima donna. Sportbikes should have always gotten it this right. But then, someone always has to lead the way.

In my opinion, quite good actually. Much better than what it was originally priced. You are getting a lot more goodies, personality, looks for only about 40K more.

I kind of agree with you but it's very hard to ignore the Suzuki gsx-s750 at this price point.
I know they are in two different categories but still it will be a point of consideration for people looking at this bike.

Even though the Z900 and GSX750 make the CBR650R look expensive for the price and power it offers, I'd say CBR650R has the perfect amount of power, looks and decent enough pricing for being a HONDA.

For someone like me looking to upgrade from quarter liter segment bike to a new bigger Inline-4/3 bike for around ₹10L with all safety kit TC, ABS (now which has become mandatory), but it should not be big bulky liter class bike or anything close to liter class bike and shouldn't be over 100PS power segment for obvious known reasons.

Which rules the GSX750, Z900, ZX6R out of the picture, no Benelli 600 for not liking it. The other 3 cylinder bikes like MT09, Street Triple makes a decent argument for themselves but not at the cost of ₹12-13L. Duke 790 we will keep waiting forever I'm guessing.

So, the only the other bike left out in this segment that fits all the above said not too scary powerful, tame enough, but still a hoot to ride, not a liter class or close to liter class bike, has a fairing that every Indian wants and has an Inline-4, yet costing ₹1-1.5L less from ₹10L leaving enough spare change to get all sweet upgrades and gear.

I'd say its a steal deal!
But then all of the above is just my own preferences, others might have different viewpoint.

The 2017 CBR650F was launched at 7.37 but the price was actually 7.54 when it went out of the market. So this is actually a 16000 increase over the previous price. 16K for slightly more power and electronics albeit at the cost of a more sporty riding position.

I would agree too. There is no one bike that does it all for everybody.
I think even Z900, Z100 are very strong considerations too.

I think the power is more or less the same as this one is detuned for India and produces around 87 BHP which is almost the same as the 1st gen one. However a power commander or a remap should take it higher. For me personally Radially Mounted brake callipers, Upside down forks, that so much cooler dash, electronics, slipper clutch and those better looks really make it a better prospect. Plus since I use my bike mostly for weekend rides, I probably will appreciate the more sporty riding position even more. But I do agree that it can be a negative for people who tour on this bike and I know quite a few people who do tour on this bike.

To me this seems to be a better bike and better priced as well. Plus with Honda increasing the Number of BigWing dealerships in India from 2 to 19, it should solve service concerns for a few states too.

I still believe Honda is late to the party. With the setup that they have in India, they should have been the earlier manufacturers to do this in India, rather than being almost the last. But I guess, I am glad that it is happening nevertheless.

                              Hi!
I am going to book this bike next week. Problem is Honda big wing gurgram, haryana(common showroom for delhi and haryana) doesn't have it on display. Which means no test ride also. I was considering z900 before but i read on xbhp, kawasaki's are hard to maintain. So only option i'm left with is cbr650r. Question is should i book it without test ride?
If anyone has experience with Honda big wing haryana, please tell me about it.
