  • 90s Supercharged? Kawasaki H2 ZX-7R Koncept by Kardesign

We have known all about the Kawasaki Ninja H2 for a while. It is supercharged. It is bonkers. It performs like an absolute and brutal beast. But... there are always some people who have something to nitpick. In case of the Ninja H2, it was the design which was a bit too edgy for some. Then came the Z H2, a supercharged hyper naked which, again, is insane but then, you cannot please everybody... unless... you supercharge the iconic Kawasaki ZX-7RR. And so, here we bring to you the Kardesign Kawasaki H2 ZX-7R Koncept.

Kawasaki has been known for quite a few striking motorcycles and Ninja H2 is one of them. But the WSB-conquering ZX-7R was arguably their best. It was perhaps the most stunning looking motorcycle of the 90s. Then came the ZX-7RR, the original road-going WSB homologation special which was blessed with the same pedigree and looks. Now we all know how the 700s were phased out and to be honest, it is sad that some of the most iconic motorcycles existed in this category (GSX-R750 anyone?).

Know about our Kawasaki Ninja H2 (souped-up to 280 bhp) and our 20,000 km on the roadtrip here. You can also follow this journey on YouTube.

But someone thought of something brilliant... nostalgia and cutting-edge modern tech, seamlessly combined to make a stunner. Kardesign Koncept, from the UK, recently shared a concept where they combine the supercharged madness of the H2 and the handsome looks of the ZX-7R to conceptualize this beautiful motorcycle called the H2 ZX-7R.

While it is just a concept, the idea itself is not too shabby. A 1000cc, 200+ bhp motorcycle may not be everyone's cup of tea. And the same can be said about the edgy styling of the Ninja H2. But reduce that capacity to 750, dress it pretty like the OG ZX-7R and you have a 160+ bhp motorcycle which looks like a darn dream and goes like one too.

Kar Lee, the automotive design concept artist behind Kardesign Koncepts, was the one who brought this concept to the fore hoping for it to be a premonition and we can't resonate more! He wrote in his post, "Kawasaki could build this tomorrow, just add some classic ZX-7R bodywork to an H2 and away you go. Easy." While it cannot be that easy... can it be difficult enough to make it impossible? We don't think so.

The design looks so cool and classy. Kawasaki should consider making one.

But I disgree about making it 700cc. This will have both a marketing & a performance impact. Unless we're talking about massive weight saving or size benefit (which I don't see with this fairing), we should drop the idea.
The only reason to get excited about 600-700cc segment in face of litre one, was weight saving, size reduction, and usable performance. In Euro 6 era, I don't see much of it happening anyways (except usable performance), specially not on Japanese bikes.

Plus, additional costs downsizing it and training mechanics and new parts and R&D..
Not to mention, additional reliability doubts about the engine going 700, although Kawasaki does seek perfection.

But yes, a litre class, 230~ bhp ZX7RR, why not? It will be a keeper when the world has gone electric!

Love the ZX7RR and would pick it any day over the H2 but I think they should at least make it 900cc.
