  • Here’s the first look of the radical electric cafe-racer Arc Vector

While the electric motorcycle may not be very populated or growing too rapidly at the moment, it cannot be denied that the future is electric. Continuous development in the direction to counter the ill-effects of ICE driven vehicles on the environment has made sure of that. Since ICEs to electric motors mark a major shift, manufacturers are also using this opportunity to depart from conventional motorcycle designs. Case in point, the radical, edgy and beautiful (in a sense), Arc Vector.

We posted an article regarding the Arc Vector with a haptic jacket and HUD helmet a while ago. You can read it here. When that article was published, we did not have a lot of concrete information on the motorcycle and also, there was a severe lack of eye candy. We rectify that in this article as we bring to you the first look of the Arc Vector. Electric as it is, this motorcycle is promising to be a high-performance one which is evident from the technology involved and of course, the numbers.

Talking numbers, the 399 V motor employed in the Arc Vector makes 133 Bhp and almost 148 Nm of torque. These figures, while not earth-shattering, are enough for the intended purpose of the motorcycle. The weight though might be an issue because electric motorcycles do tend to weigh a lot but the engineers have done a great job of keeping the weight of this motorcycle in check. The Arc Vector tips the scale at 220 Kg which is commendable. With this heft, the Arc Vector can accelerate from 0-100 km/h within 3 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

Most of the weight saving comes down to the innovative chassis of the motorcycle. It has the batteries integrated into the chassis to keep the weight down. The frame of the Arc Vector electric motorcycle is a carbon monocoque design. The battery pack is built into the frame, adding rigidity without additional weight. Arc partnered with MotoGP-supplier Riba to create a carbon-fibre monocoque swingarm. One thing about the motorcycle that impressed us the most is the range. It is being claimed that the motorcycle has a range of more than 600 km in the urban areas and more than 350 km if one is being less generous with the throttle.

Being an electric motorcycle, the Arc Vector is inherently clutch-free and does not have any gears. Not all motorcycles need to be a KYMCO SuperNex… It gets traction control, variable power modes, cruise control, and a head-up display in conjunction with an Arc helmet. The components in place are all super high-end. As seen in the pictures, the hub-steering motorcycle has a hub-steering design that uses automotive Öhlins unit and also present is the Öhlins TTX flow piggyback shock in the rear. Both shocks are fully adjustable with easily accessed knobs to dial in the preferred damping action.

Brembo discs gripped by the top of the line Stylema callipers have ABS from Continental. BST The BlackStone Tek carbon-fibre wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II tires. That’s a 180/55 on the rear and a 120/70 in the front. While the production is set to begin in 2020, we saved the best (or worst) for last. With a price tag of £90,000, this motorcycle will be out of reach for most of us mere mortals. But we can have fun too… by looking at the pictures.
