  • 9 Yamaha models discontinued for 2010.

My Comments: A big reason for this decision, might be declining US Sales for Naked bikes. People there prefer Cruisers or completely Faired bikes...

What can one do, if majority tastes change? Nothing.
In fact, Why was the FZ6 full faired? Majority Taste, or maybe Yamaha found that fairing doesn't hamper practicality by much...?

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

i think they wanted to sell a cheaper full faired bike thats also more comfortable and road friendly than the R6 .

it is the R6S. No the R6 itself.

Guys, R6-S was another model of R6 which costed $1300 or so, lesser than new R6. When it was introduced, it had a 2005 R6 engine which made 123 PS...

However, It had some other changes too, in favor of rider ergonomics. Sadly, it is stopped now.

Of course quite possible... Faired bikes are favorable to a lot of bikers, but supersports characteristics are not favorable to many...

                        sad to hear this...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

That's a sad move by Yamaha. Wonder what would the admirers of these bikes are feeling.

I guess it's just that the 2009 models will not be produced. They might have a new version/avatar for 2010. They will never scrap R6, FJR, MT to name the least.
                            Enna Rascalla. Mind it !!!

They have not removed the R6, (the supersport model). There was a less extreme , less intimidating fully faired version that was available that has been discontinued.

They have introduced the FZ6R which is the fully faired version of the FZ6 to replace R6-s with/combine in the FZ portfolio !!

Also the FJR model iteself is not being discontinued, only the automatic clutch version FJR1300 AE. The original FJR1300A is still available !!

Also AFAIK, the MT-01 was a world wide sales flop, and it was a matter of when and not if to get that discontinued.

As Samarth said, although America is considered a cruiser country, the current generation has taken a distinct shift towards fully faired motorcyles.

Also during recession, its a good excuse for companies to take a look inwards and do some pruning.

I'm sure all the models that have been discontinued weren't exactly setting the sales charts on fire !!!
