But why do you feel Bajaj is more worried about Yamaha..?
Do you really feel Bajaj which sells 2.5 lakh bikes per month has any sort of direct or indirect competition from Yamaha which barely sells 17-18k units a month...?
Moreover, do we all feel Yamaha doesnt understand that by lowering or keeping ther products competitive they would enhance ther market share manifold..?
They are big masters of ther businesses, just that they have a different policy and different game set..!
When Bajaj said that they would want to become the worlds biggest manufacturers..they obviously mean saleswise...!
And we all understand that sales come from punny little bikes and not from 220cc 80k priced bikes....
That said, expect Bajaj to linger around 100-150cc more at the same time providing bigger options keeping ther brand value in higher regards.2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)

All said and done.. but the little sticker on the fairing is not an "F", because had it been an "F", it would have looked like that on both sides.. and not one side as "F" and the other side bearing a mirror image. Its just a sticker and no inferences should be based just by looking at the bike from just one side.Originally posted by shaukshemi View Post
In other news, an intriguing detail on a Bajaj bike that had been the recent subject of some discussion amongst bikers, have been revealed. And along with it comes a much bigger news – the launch of yet another Pulsar. Yes, we are talking about the small ’F’ sticker that adorns the fairing of the 2nd Gen Pulsar 220. Contrary to popular speculations, the ‘F’ stands for ‘faired’ and this piece of news indicates that a ‘naked’ version of the P220 is in the pipeline. The new bike will be badged the‘s’ version of the P220. While its unclear whether the ‘s’ stands for ‘sports’ or ‘streetfighter’; its confirmed that the new bike will ditch its half fairing in favour of a naked headlamp and a redesigned instrument cluster. With the weight reduction will, hopefully, come an increase in performance and a decrease in price too. Fingers crossed, then.
Bajaj also announced that they would not be attending the Auto Expo 2010, to be held in New Delhi from the 5th to 11th Jan next year.

Anyways... i would love to see a streetfighter 4-valve DOHC P220 DTS-Fi - LS inside 1 lac(ex-showroom) weighing 135kg. and that would certainly kill all competition handed out to it by the R-15s and the ZMRs.. for good...Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Well its true that 100-125CC bikes hold a major market share but premium segment is growing very quikly & is presently @ around 75k units per month & mind you that Bajaj holds a healthy 70%share of premium segment (like Hero Honda is dominant in 100CC) & they know that if there is any company which threatens their premium range of bikes then it has to be Yamaha & only Yamaha (Honda not intrested in this segment & hero honda in stickering their Splendor & Passion )& it has been proved by their recent launches like FZ series & R15,thus to prevent its market share in premium segment Bajaj had to take the necessary actions & i think they have done very wellOriginally posted by Devilpulsarian View PostBut why do you feel Bajaj is more worried about Yamaha..?

I wish for better chassis
I wish the review of P135's chassis is good. Coz if BAL is going to make street-fighter spec p220 one of the thing that I dearly wish it to carry is the new stressed member engine with other improvement on chassis to make it lighter, tighter and more agile. Also while I am on my wish list then might as well wish a little reduction in length of motorcycle. I like'em a bit twitchy in corners so its easy to maneuver them.
But hey It's what a pervertized-cafe-racer in me thinks!
When in doubt...... Gas it!

going by bajaj's trends so far, i doubt they will make such a radical move as bringing in a new engine(4Valve, more bhp, et al) into the 220. or for that matter, an all new bike: that would be asking for too much.
but hey, a few surprises never hurt

at best, they may actually launch a naked 220 leaving the engine untouched, and i don't think a lot of people would mind even if it sold for the same price as the faired one. but they aren't participating in the auto expo in the first place

Holy smokes!
The new P135 got 9 out of 10 in handling from our XBhp team during 1st impression test! Now that is something new for bajaj I think.
If this is where bajaj is heading, then I am very happy about it!

Hope to see similar setup in future pulsers too! When in doubt...... Gas it!

Bajaj Auto to roll out high-powered Pulsar by 2011-12
On the sidelines of launching its Pulsar 135 LS in New Delhi, Bajaj Auto which has also stopped production of its once mother product - the scooter, revealed that it is now working on Pulsar variant above 220cc and intends to launch it in the next 2-3 years.
The new motorcycle, expected to be powered by a 400 or 500 cc liquid- cooled engine DTSi, is expected to be priced at least Rs. 1 lakh. Currently, the Pune-based company’s Pulsar portfolio includes the 150-cc, 180-cc and 220-cc version besides the 135-cc launched a couple of days back. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, told reporters, "We can go for a Pulsar 400-cc or a Pulsar 500-cc. We are already in the process of developing such bikes and our R&D teams are at work."
Over the last decade, the company has successfully changed its image from a scooter manufacturer to a two wheeler manufacturer. Its product range encompasses Scooterettes, Scooters and Motorcycles. Its real growth in numbers has come in the last four years after successful introduction of a few models in the motorcycle segment.
Bajaj Auto CEO, two-wheeler division, S. Shridhar, said the company was also working on 400 cc and 500 cc Pulsar models – showing Bajaj’s strategy of moving towards bigger segment motorcycles – away from the scooter segment – where it created the ‘Hamara Bajaj’ household name during the 80s and 90s with brands like Chetak. “If you see automakers around the world, the trend is that profitability goes up remarkably as you move towards bigger segments,” he told reporters.
