  • New Yamaha YZF R1 coming to India

    @ Mods,
I dont know if this piece of news is already out on xBhp but still sharing it. If it's already being discussed then kindly move the post to the concern thread or else would be happy if it gets approved. Sorry for the trouble

"Japanese auto maker Yamaha has announced that it intends to launch a new version of its super bike model YZF-R1 in 2010. “We will launch a new version of YZF-R1 in India in 2010. The bike will be a bit more expensive than the existing YZF-R1, but will have the same 998cc engine,” India Yamaha Motor National Business Head Pankaj Dubey said. The company earlier launched the R1 superbike in 2007 in India along with MT–01 during 2007 as completely built units, priced at about Rs 10.5 lakh. During September this year, it also rode in the 1,679 cc VMAX, at Rs 20 lakh apiece. The new model will have the same 998cc engine but will be a bit pricier than the existing model.

Yamaha is aiming at 50 percent growth in the Indian market where it is likely to achieve 2,20,000 units sale annually as well as export nearly 70,000 units from India. The R1 2010 model sports a liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine, compared with the 2007 R1 model that runs on a liquid-cooled four-stroke engine. The company claims it’s the first motorcycle with a cross-plane crankshaft.

“We don’t see any other bike manufacturer as competition because each product has a different niche. Coming in of more players will only increase competitiveness in the market,” Dubey said."

This certainly is a Big event. But I tell you all those who bought the previous version of the R1 (official) will surely regretr not having waited for this baby to arrive. Unless money isn't an issue.

                    Launched:

ndia Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. (IYM) has announced the launch of its flagship superbike – the 2010-spec YZF-R1 – in India. Yamaha had first launched the R1 in India back in 2007 and the bike had been a huge hit with motorcycle enthusiasts in the country.

‘While the market for superbikes in India is still limited, consumer response to our previously launched YZF-R1, MT01 and VMAX bikes has been overwhelming. The new R1’s launch signifies our successful brand transformation efforts in India,’ said Yukimine Tsuji, CEO and MD, IYM.

With its four-cylinder, 998cc engine that produces about 180 horsepower, the Yamaha R1 is widely considered to be one of the best superbikes in the world. This phenomenal machine is priced at Rs 12.50 lakh in India (because of the more than 100% duty levied on CBU imports) and will be available at 24 authorized Yamaha dealerships in 13 cities.

Can anyone put light on how many units of the 07 R1 were sold.
Also 24 dealerships in 13 cities is big thing because thats the number of dealerships where Ninja 250 R is available.

The 2009 R1 is the one with that introduced new cross plane crankshaft technology to the public. the 2010 model of the same is actually just a paint job of the 2009 R1 model
