  • Apache RTR will get ABS soon (as an option)

The rumor had been floating around for couple of years and the Hosur based two-wheeler giant finally unveiled the ABS (anti-lock braking system) equipped Apache RTR at the recently held Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The unit is a Continental device, developed especially for the Apache. Though most parts, sensors and software are a direct lift off

My Comments: Bike India gave quite many details about the ABS in 2nd paragraph, so it seems its a real news.
ABS is the performance way to go, no doubt, though the price seems steep..

But, when most of us change those TVS Srichakra tyres for grip reasons, won't the ABS under-perform?
I mean, even CBR 600 underperforms if you use Race compound tyres with it. It performs like 90% or so, and brake-control is activated much earlier than the tyre lock.

I do hope they go for slightly grippier tyres that require no change. No one's expecting those R15 tyres, but a Zapper-FS & Zapper-C will do, won't it guys?

Does a 180cc bike really need ABS ?? I mean is it really worthy to have ABS in a bike like Apache??

Its very much needed in India. The roads are always covered with Cow Excreta, sand which causes many accidents!and the way people ride here its pathetic anywhere anytime anyone can come in front of you, which causes panic! So its really required .

            I really liked those lines!!

"When it comes to safety, this extra dough, in our opinion is worth it. When a rider can invest Rs 12000-15000 for a set of helmet, riding jacket, pants and gloves, why wouldn’t an educated and enthusiast biker go in for the ABS option as well?"

I think initially the system would be priced steep but expect the price to be dropped after the system finds acceptance by the public.

Dude i would say ABS should be a must in every vehicle we ride starting from 100 CC...coz u can clock a minimum 80km/hr or more depending upon the CC segment u ride...and 80km/hr is good nf 2 bring a hell lot of damage to ur body if u meet up an accident involving heavy braking ! ! !...GOD Forbid ! ! !..

But yes if it could be any cheaper...10k is hell lot for just an ABS..ne amount around 5k will do..
Nothing feels better than to gear up and burn some rubber ! ! !

Actually ABS should only cost about 1250/- to a max of 2000/- bucks as there is a company in mumbai providing abs to all types of motorcycles having a disc brake...!!!

how can TVS charge 4 times as much...

Dude thats no ABS . The TVS abs is electronically controlled and has sensors in both the disks that checks when the tyre has locked-up and then releases braking pressure . checkout the prices of ABS in international bikes . they are in upwards of 500$ atleast.

Convincing Indian consumers about the "Value" of a feature is a dicey affair..

Guys here would be ready to shell out thousands of extra dough just for a Half/Full Fairing for show off/bragging rights.. but to invest about Rs. 5,000-10,000 for a Lifesaving Helmet (forget a feature like ABS) can raise eyebrows.

Regardless of the price increase, which might or might not be steep, depending on person to person, ABS is surely a good, positive step forward as far as Indian motorcycling industry is concerned. We might argue non-stop about whether ABS is actually required on a "puny" 180cc machine and what not, but the fact remains - ABS will come in handy during crunch situation, that's guaranteed.

Heck, if I were to sell off my P200 today, I would go ahead and get the ABS equipped Apache RTR, just for this very reason - ABS!
