  • The New R ONE, 2009

Now that we have xBhp up and about and kicking, let us begin the discussions. Quite a few of us have known the arrival of the "all new" R1 2009. You guys can have a look at it on the micro site here
    2009 YZF-R1 MICRO SITE

We have seen that this is the first time that a cross plane crank is being introduced in a production bike. If you have been through the link above, you will also notice that the high beam lamps have gone and have been replaced by Huge ram air intake scoops. There is an all new twin spar frame which is supposed to hold corners better. I have not yet ridden it. I cannot vouch for it. I have not even seen it in flesh for that matter. They have introduced an electronic steering damper which Honda fans will say that they had it for years.

I somehow feel that this going to be an amazing machine, for the city, for long tours (on good healthy roads with tarmac). Now with the presence of Superbikes in India, will Yamaha bring this on to us? Or will they hold her back? That is a big question haunting quite a few of us who are willing to go and buy this machine. I personally know quite a few people who go and grab this one the moment it is put up.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Ah, MG beat me by a hair's throw!

You'll have to excuse me for a few hours, Ken. Atleast, until I reach home. But yes, I have to say loads about this. Muahahahaha...

          yipeee...Happy to see my name...lol

ya the new R1 is cool specially everyone can notice the new air vent integrated in the two head light spaces...cool...

the new design changes are also good...

it would have been nice if they took care of the ugly looking silencers at the rear...it could have been the side one...now a days seen on 600cc sbk's.
          small and invisible ones...lol

The new projector headlamp combined with Forced air intake looks brilliant. With new features YZF R1 2009 would surely rock.

            P.S: Ken any plans?

Thank you Pulsater. Looks like you were ready with the article and put it up the moment things are up and going. The Variable length intake manifold is not new in the 09, it has been around since 07. But I liked the picture of the cross plane crank. Though it would be nice if we could have a diagram of the same.

Maybe Gasoline or Old Fox should start a thread about Cross plane Cranks.
