I remember Eterno was stopped by Honda due to sales less than 40,000 per year or so...
But still, many love the machine and can't find very big faults in it - except for styling maybe.
It gave good torque, it had good city comfort, and mileage above 55 kmpl was well achievable.
These scooters with better styling, and good overall package might be accepted.... or maybe not?
Guys, what do you all think?---
Brotherhood, Rules, Freedom. Xbhp.
Indian riding = Alertness, Anticipation and Adjustment.

Well the eterno was popular cause unlike other rattling lml scooters its gears, acceleration, fuel eff., brakes were much better. If piaggio is able to come out with a scooter that gives great FE along with a comfortable ride people would buy it. Geared scooter still won't be as popular as gearless for the sheer comfort that gearless provide in the city..A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

Vespa is the inventor of scooters. Vespa can play this emotional card as well when it launches its models in India. The current Vespa models have a very "classy, retro yet modern" appeal.
Vespa can definitely try to tap a niche base of customers looking for a "classic, retro yet modern" scooter.
It can be the 2 wheeler equivalent of the modern VW Beetle or the Fiat 500.
Geared scooters are no longer the craze anymore. Moreover the current Vespa scooters feature "CVT' mechanism.
Fuel efficiency can be as what the current automatic scooters deliver.
But yes, the key would be the pricing. It should not be priced sky high for India.

LML vespa name had alreay had ....a reasonable reputation..... and customer base........as well as fan following......in the people who are young at heart and those who wanted a scooter more advanced and sophisticated than "hamara bajaj" and also those who wanted good acceleration and top end.....
if only vespa can come up with a nice overall package.....with good pricing...

If Vespa sells, it is not because of either performance or fuel efficiency. It will only be for styling and the retro aspect. I wonder how many takers there will be for that in our country! I have grave misgivings about this venture! The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Hamara Bajaj (Chetak Scooter) died a natural death long long time ago.Originally posted by princesirohi View PostLML vespa name had alreay had ....a reasonable reputation..... and customer base........as well as fan following......in the people who are young at heart and those who wanted a scooter more advanced and sophisticated than "hamara bajaj" and also those who wanted good acceleration and top end.....

Its the times of the "Activa" that we live in now.

The only 2 wheeler that sells in India due to it "retro" appeal are the Royal Enfield Bullets (the Thunder bird not included), the Classic 350/500 surprisingly seems to have a Long (7-8 months) waiting list, just to book the bike..!!
It might definitely be a niche, but probably its interesting enough to explore.
Another "Activa" clone will only create clutter to the exisiting scooter market.

Any venture is worth exploring provided it is a profitable one!Originally posted by payeng View Post

True, but maybe with proper pricing, it might not be bad idea.Originally posted by ken cool View PostAny venture is worth exploring provided it is a profitable one!
I had learnt to ride a two wheeler on my dad's chetak. Maybe I can gift him a vespa
. Moreover those Vespa scoots look kinda classy actually.

Eterno, even on its heydays NEVER sold more than 10k units per month....!Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostI remember Eterno was stopped by Honda due to sales less than 40,000 per month or so...
Moreover, Eterno died because it was a bad product rather than people's falling interest on geared scooters.
The bulk of the scooter was much more than what an average Indian male can handle....!
According to me, Eterno, if relaunched with a lesser bulk would definitely find many takers....!

With scooters sales growing more than motorcycles for this month, this definitely seems to be a pretty good step and with the image Vespa (Piaggio) has I feel it would be a profitable stint for them (only if they do not try to ape Honda here in prices...!)2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
2006 - Eterno (sold)
2008 - Dio (Owned)
2009 - Pulsar 220 DTSi

Agreed the Eterno was bulky, but mechanically there was nothing wrong with the scooter. The engine had good pick up, it was smooth and reliable and also delivered mileage of around 55 kmpl (equaling motorcycles)..!!Originally posted by Devilpulsarian View PostEterno, even on its heydays NEVER sold more than 10k units per month....!

But then the majority of scooter buying customers now prefer the ease of riding on "automatic" models like the Activa, Even if it returns less mileage.
I mean why buy a scooter in the first place, if you want a "geared" mechanism?
