lol suicide i tell you.. they obviously are not gonna price it cheap. probably like someone said sell them like fiat 500 or vw beetle. i see no market for them, today's generation grew up on pulsars they have no interest in geared scooters. gearless sells just for its conveniences. unless they think they can tap into the 50+ age group which now rides all the platinas and splendours !! or i could be totally wrong !
i like their design, would love to admire them but dont think i would ride them.
Regardless, Life shall go on.

Yes, they do look classy. To you and me. But rarely have I found that what you and I like go on to determine market trends or sales! I am talking India specific of course. These Vespa sell like hot cakes amongst the paparazzi in Europe!Originally posted by payeng View PostTrue, but maybe with proper pricing, it might not be bad idea.
I had learnt to ride a two wheeler on my dad's chetak. Maybe I can gift him a vespa
. Moreover those Vespa scoots look kinda classy actually.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Yups, after owning an Eterno in my family, I would vouch for the above mentioned facts...!
Apart from a few issues, it was a good scooter..!2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
2006 - Eterno (sold)
2008 - Dio (Owned)

it does look cute.If priced right and mechanically sound,I'm sure it'll find takers.Atleast the fairer sex will like it IMO.In India, pricing plays a major role and even if they get it right, moving ppl away from honda is quite a hectic job.It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

+1Originally posted by payeng View PostVespa is the inventor of scooters. Vespa can play this emotional card as well when it launches its models in India. The current Vespa models have a very "classy, retro yet modern" appeal.
Vespa can definitely try to tap a niche base of customers looking for a "classic, retro yet modern" scooter. It can be the 2 wheeler equivalent of the modern VW Beetle or the Fiat 500.
Geared scooters are no longer the craze anymore. Moreover the current Vespa scooters feature "CVT' mechanism.
Fuel efficiency can be as what the current automatic scooters deliver.
But yes, the key would be the pricing. It should not be priced sky high for India.
Everything sells in India, as long as its priced right.Originally posted by ken cool View PostIf Vespa sells, it is not because of either performance or fuel efficiency. It will only be for styling and the retro aspect. I wonder how many takers there will be for that in our country! I have grave misgivings about this venture!
I would not be surprised if they play the emotional card and offer one 'premium' classic product rather than the mass market scoot to begin with!Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

To me that's a positioning (emotional, classy - retro scooter card) which even Honda cannot play.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostI would not be surprised if they play the emotional card and offer one 'premium' classic product rather than the mass market scoot to begin with!
Competing with the Honda scooters for the mass market would be a tall order. TVS, Suzuki, Hero Honda and Mahindra Scooters are trying to do just that.
Playing to a niche "classy - retro" crowd can't be a bad idea. If priced resonably, I wouldn't mind getting one for myself.

Yup +1 and one nice brain bucket, some gell, some tight shirts and pants and a ray ban shade to go with it!Originally posted by payeng View PostTo me that's a positioning (emotional, classy - retro scooter card) which even Honda cannot play.
