It looks more of a prototype let's see how the engine and handling fares with the other super bikes

All the tech improvemts are at some point either going to make it a hell to remember or with all the tech switched on no fun of manually controlling the bike....

The bike does look stunning, but seems to have lost the DNA from the previous generation R1s. The front looks quite similar to the Panigale.

Yes, this is a different R1 to those which we used to see. Specially the front panel!

Headlights may look good in the night but comes nowhere close to the traditional dual eye type design IMO.

Coming to the technology, that is surely to heat up the competition now! Looking forward to some serious heat between the S1000RR, ZX-10R, Panigale and this!!
Same here. I for myself, do not hate the looks specifically, but yes, do feel that the R1 aura is missing with the 2015 model.
The 2007-08 model had raised the expectations in terms of looks pretty high. I just can't get over the way how beautiful does this particular model looks. Full of character. Headlamps resembling the eyes of a cobra, vicious and evil. In contrast, the newest model is more about purpose rather than beauty.
All said and done, just cover the odd headlamps and the bike starts looking rather good.

gone is that hand sculpted curvacious beautiful looking R1 that would make a guy go weak in knees from any angles..
these times are more of sharp edges and alien looking drones moving on 2 wheels..

those twin barrels.. sound of the cross-plane , those projector devil headlamps.. and those curves..

the old R1's will soon be the cult...

am guessing the govt's soon will be making it official that alien races do exist parallel to humanity.....

Doesn't the front look a lot like the Paningale... The position of lights, the vents on the side...
All are going in for the futuristic look it seems.

Re: Yamaha YZF R1 Launched at EICMA 2014

In my humble opinion, I still like the 2007-08 R1 more than any R1 after it.
The 2009 R1 gained a lot of race credo with the irregular firing & the CPCS, but the 2 projector looks were okayish in my opinion.

Headlights give character to a motorcycle's design. And this latest design... its good. But its not really lovely enough at first sight, and its trying too hard to be something that it doesn't convey at all.

If you're going for an all MotoGP look, its a great thing. But why should the headlights even be visible from the front, that too in such an ugly way? A little brainstorming could've eliminated those funny "low-eyes" headlight position forever.

Say, how about giving the front mask a matt-translucent or matt-transparent look, and keeping a pair of headlights inside it?
It would make it aerodynamic enough & give the MotoGP looks, given that the headlights will only shine from inside while riding, and not be otherwise visible clearly at standstill.
A higher wattage/ power bulb would've been required though.

A not so feasible idea space-wise, would be to have headlights on the outside of the fairing, in place of low placed indicators (like ZX 6R has had, in the 2007 & other models). In other words, integrate headlights into the fairing... It wouldn't have given it a unique identity, but atleast the motoGP frontal looks could've been there.

There could've been lots of ways to avoid the frontal low slung headlights, but I guess its not too bad even now...
