    Running in

And while I am running in the Diavel not as soon as I woud like to (I refuse to take it out in local traffice where I can't go beyond second gear) as I wold like to do as mush highway kms as possible for the first 1000 kms, let me share some gyan I have encountered on engine running in.

Running In | Ash On Bikes

Kevin Ash is one of the most well respected motorcycle journalists and this article is a great piece. Flies in the face of what we know as 'conventional logic' but then again, here it is.

'Run it like you stole it from new' is the new mantra, at least for modern 4 stroke engines (RE do not fall within this

Welcome to the Ducati family by bringing in the big daddy of Ducati's. Look forward to future rides.

There is so much info on running in over the internet , its confusing , with my street fighter I followed what my mechanic told me as I have complete faith in him as he has spent over 20 years with ducati , he told me its not necessary to stick to 3500 rpm, you can go higher as long as you don't red line it or keep it in one gear or at a constant rpm for long periods. Straight stretch of high way is the worst place to break in a bike as you will be in a higher gear and constant rpm. Best place to break in is at the twisties . Also give plenty of breaks in between for the oil to cool off. Before you start riding , plz plz plz warm up the bike for good 15 minutes , its a must for every ducati
drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

Agreed bro. Ur mechanic is spot on. Twisties are best, but one can make do with the highway. As long as u can roll on and off the throttle at various gears, there is no sweat. And regardless of make of bike, one should never rev at a high rpm before the engine warms up to it's operating temp. Max damage takes place when the engine is cold and the oil has still to make it's way through everywhere.

Luckily, or unluckily, from where I live in Mumbai, it takes over 45 mins to reach the highway and by then, the engine is more than adequately warmed up

I think Kevin Ash says more or less the same thing, don't redline it but give it a good workout.

Thanks Sunny. Hope u enjoying your Diavelish adventure in the US.

This Diavel is definitely more powerful than my old VMAX (older model). Also it revs more freely across the range. The way the revs climb up is similar to any modern sports bike and the tourque of a Vtwin is intoxicating...

The real difference is the 'handling'. The old VMAX had really bad handling and was heavy and tough to corner and bank. The Diavel is so light, I can do standing 180 degree turns on it, is so bankable around corners and braking is just magnificient. It has exactly what I was looking for: the style, looks and comfort of a cruiser with the power, handling and performance to challange sportsbikes. Its light weight also makes it very user friendly in a city like Mumbai.

Earlier, I had zeroed in on the new VMAX but am glad I came across the Diavel. Am happy that I finally own my 'Dream Bike'.

                  Cheers

                          Hi Vivek,

Nice to see the bike in flesh. Its an awesome bike & the sound is really good.

But I heard some sound coming from the rear wheel when I was riding behind you. Is it natural?

I am the same guy who was on a silver ZMA-R & I gave you a thumbs up.

The sound was coming only when you slowed down & it was like something is hitting the rear wheel, but as soon you throttle it, the sound goes away or may be I could not hear because of the roar of the engine .
