Lets try answering whatever I can but i am no expert. Have been on and owned couple of bike you mentioned so thought i would write my 2 cents

any idea that litre class bikes or 600's have any issues which needs to be looked into while checking the used bike out?
      1. Frame Damage which is common: Usually tough to see though without laser tools and could be very tough to confirm on records as they arent maintained properly to consider it a write off in India. (what I am aware about records so far but might be wrong so check)
      2. Old bikes: Gear Box issues. Check when the engine was rebuilt and how many Kms it has done. For a sports bike, you are looking for less KMS. Wide Open throttle use reduces the life of engine, so if its s import, make sure you get it checked with someone who knows.
      3. Tyres: Conditions of it and how long will they last on your usage before you fork out some money. A sportsbike on touring tyres is not a sportsbike but a wrong choice in selection of bike.
4: Access to parts and affordability.
      5. Original fairings. Lack of it might mean that bike has been crash. Chain (flex, tight spots, sprockets, any leaks of fluid specially around engine, service history, Does the suspension need work or oil change)
      6. Make the owner start it in front of you in morning and not pre-warmed. If its pre-warmed, you missed something which you could check i.e. cold start.

also does a honda say 919, 929 or 954 are diffcult to handle at street speed lets say around 40-50 km/h? how different these 400s are then 600 and 1000's in terms of handling weight bias , braking? i am assuming being lighter they should stop faster as they also comes with twin brakes and inertia should be considerably less in front wheel. also shorter wheelbase should lead to quicker turn ins!

They usually suck in lower speeds with low riding position than upright commute bikes, doing U Turns with clip ons and fat fairings making filtering between cars tough sometimes but nothing which you can not get used to. 400s are more forgiving though if you have never been on bigger bike and still getting the things right. Buy something which you can afford to drop is very common advice here.
Stopping distance depends on Master Cylinder/Calipers/Pads and leverage combined with correct technique. Running a sports with race pads *which requires heat to work* might not work as expected on streets...Same for any bike actually. If you know where you lacking, you can always upgrade or change things.

If you learning things like cornering/body position/braking etc..probably go 400rr before jumping on 600s/1Ls...
CBR250R and CBR400RR or even CBR250RR are two very diff bikes.... Notice the extra R there in 400RR... Very diff than 250R which is more commute to my opinion regardless of what anyone tells.....

The bit below is very true...>Learn and you know more about your bike and how to get expected results before you outgrow it...

So the first thing you should consider before buying a sbk is that either you have a trusted mechanic or you are ready to get baptized the harder way.
I was born and brought up in Lucknow......So sorta of intrested how this thread goes....

Maverick, I hope 'Warp Speed' has answered most of your questions. regarding the cbr 400 rr there are different models though out the years. The 'L' model it makes close to 60 hp ,and the later models make close to 53 hp. So if you can find a "L' model, good for you. Another thing to check other than wiring , is the over heating. My bike currently heats up too, so i am planning to change to a bigger radiator. Other common issues are minor and can be rectified easily (provided you have a good mechanic). My ride also has a yoshimura bolt on, so it sounds awesome, and has a better low end too.

i digress from the expert opinions here regarding depreciation of super/sportsbikes.
the values depend on demand and supply . kudos the rules and regs in india, used bikes prices here have been totally out of tune with prices in rest of the world. this was until 2008 when we had legal superbikes here with many a dealers across the country pushing the sales. finance option also bossted the sales.
however impracticalities of owning superbikes here makes most of the owners looking for a taker for their used bike and this has resulted in availability of superbikes of all makes and models (the officially sold ones) here.
consider this- (source recent ads from xbhp and teambhp)
hayabusa sept. '11 asking 1280k (delhi otr nearly 14+ new) with about 100k + of after mkt parts listed
              08 r1 asking 675k
07 busa with pc V and yoshimura asking 620k
also sooner or later, we ll have duc 695 and triumph's very desirable bikes retailing for less then 750k mark anew.
put yourself in the sellers shoes and imagine, if you wish to sell a 7-8 year old imported 1000+ cc bike for 550-600k, the buyer will more often then not have some 3-4 year old superbike on offer for maybe 100k max more. and the fellow offering you that 3-4 year old superbike will know that (presuming prices are frozen to today s levels) theres a 1 yr old latest model bike on sale for about 1 million rs that humbles him and prevents him from pegging his bike at 850-950 k.
so how will the scenario change???
with a rate list and finances available, if i had pockets deep wnough for aforementioned '11 busa, i d rather make a dp of rs.1M and get rest amount bank financed. if the owner has to push the deal with me, the price difference between new and used bike should be much more. there was a duc 1098 fm delhi that used to be advertised repeatedly on forum. first at 1950k, the asking kept reducing subsequently till 1450k. this much for a bike that was supposedly just used for an advertisement photo op.
so, in my opinion, even today, it has become too tough virtually impossible to sell any used superbike with 1-3ks on odo and less then one year old for more then 1100k. (for bikes less thn 1500ks listed)
here onwards the availability of used superbikes will keep increasing. plus many a wannabe used superbike purchasers have option of getting brand new ,more practical big bikes like few hd models and cut cost duc, that will fast deplete the used bike buyer pool.
superbikes not depreciating was a trend observed in past. but like they say in stock offerings 'performance in the past may or may not be repeated in future'
superbikes will depreciate now. tghey have to. market dynamics have changed. all big bike manufacturers want more and more indians to own and drive latest superbikes. a flourishing used bike market is necessary for things to sustain.
i still say, 3 lacs is too little an amount for a litre class in good shape. if you cant increase you budget, wait another 2 years mate.
by the way, late mr kishan rao offered me a 96 f4 600 for 220k. that was in year '07 when the said bike in pristine condition was about 11 years old. internet prices are qouted on upper end of spectrum and can be negotiated a lot.
i remember reading an article in business standard motoring long back about overall fun to drive quotient of motoring life. it claimed, riding on ghats in your enfield 500, drizzles andbreeze caressing your face is still ten times more fun then getting stuck at a haji ali traffic jam in a ferrari.
so- budget 300k? get a used 650 ninja for a few rs more. dont wanna ?? get a ninja 250 for 200k--- BUY NOW, REV HARRRRD... AND ZOOOOOMMMMM..... riding a 250 out there is bigger fun then sitting against your pc dreaming of a litre classer.

Hey Dude where did you see this price ??

Last month asked Hyosung Thane for 650N he said 4.65L with some discounts for that month! But no TD bike!

3.5 is way too low people will start pounching. Even they said that they still service at door step!

thanks mate for the news, its good deal but unfortunately after searching for a used SBK under 3.5 for long, i have decided to buy a ktm duke 200 instead for time being and will buy SBK after an year or more now.

Thanks for your help and so to all the members who helped me out and gave me contact details or informtation regarding the same.

                      Appreciated from my heart.

Moderators please close the thread as the topic is closed at-least for an year
