    • @Manson,

In your opinion, is the throttle response of the 954 relatively quicker/faster than other liters? I had a chance to rev Pranay's 954 and just touching that throttle took it straight to 5K rpm. I had to struggle to somehow achieve lesser increments in revs.

While he was riding, I noticed his rear tire slipping all over the place, even a descent from the top of a speed breaker caused a little tire slip. This happens in all bikes or is this a special case?

Not that I have the $ for a big bike now but I got scared after seeing all this.

Mine is running a Power Commander unit, so mine is a shade more crisp than the other two 954s I have ridden in the past.
Other than that, from very little fuel injected liter class experience, Honda's tend to revv just a bit more effortlessly than say a Yamaha or Kawasaki, but that could just be a perception.

Very relative really, you may have whacked the throttle in a similar manner as your bike which probably had a slightly hard throttle.

I still remember my first wheel spin with the Thunderace, it was scary to say the least.

Could be either of the following:
          Tires were cold.
          Tires needed a change.
Our man was yanking the throttle a bit too much.

          • It has been crazily long since I posted on the fireblade. It is quite funny how that single perfectly smooth downshift to second and balanced power from a whacked open throttle can keep taking your mind back to the machine.

Had the battery charged at a local store and its working fine now. Have ordered an OEM Yuasa replacement for backup just incase I need one.

Had a cooling system glitch recently which Gerard helped me with, a big thanks to him for helping me troubleshoot that.

The bike is at the mech as I type, having the cooling system bled for any air bubbles that may have remained within the hoses causing restraint in circulation of coolant through the system.
There was a lot of rashes on the front rim courtesy Mumbai roads, and I've asked the mech to paint the wheels to a nice glossy black.

The front fancy windscreen has developed a wee small crack on one of the top corners thanks to one of the chotus at the mech. This Sportech V Flow is too pimp (and expensive for what it does) to disengage for a tiny snag like that, and I dont have the heart to spend a fortune again over some more plastic stuff.

Besides the above, the blade is running as strongly as ever, brakes are working great and the power delivery is crisp.

There are a couple absolute trick parts that I've got my hands on which I shall update the thread with as and when I drop them onto the 954 over the next few weeks.
Looking to get a good pair of street gloves as my current pair of Fieldsheer have skimmed down drastically causing goosebumps when holding on for longer duration without much movement.

Apologies for the point by point update, just not good with writing blogs especially when writing after so long.

            • It took a while, but the Fireblade was back from the mech only on Saturday evening.
The mech managed a great job on the cooling system. I took the 954 for a spin the following Sunday morning, about 15 odd kms in normal traffic with a 'few' first and second gear open throttle bursts and the temperature stayed below the 100 degrees mark all along. The highest I saw through that ride was 103 degrees whilst I was idling it once I was home.
The mech said that there were crystal remains in the coolant hoses, and even the Thermostat was slightly choked up. The crystals he said looked like they had formed out of old coolant. I suspect there being any old coolant as I topped up coolant regularly due to the marginal leakage I had been experiencing.

I rode again later on Sunday evening to a friend's place at 7.00 in the evening, and the bike kept its calm, the coolant system worked perfectly and kept the bike around 100 degrees once it was warmed up.
On the ride back though, it had started pouring and I barely crawled back most of the ride back home. The rain was almost blinding me and I don't remember stretching the blade's legs even once till I got to a dry surface and no rain. The good part was that the temperature did not exceed a mere 86 degrees while riding back, which pretty much made the crawling back worthwhile.

The only downer was that I could hear the whistling sound was back again, very faint this time and I noticed it to come on only above 100 degrees and below 1500 rpm but it really is going to bother me till I get around its source which I am suspecting to be the same coolant hose clamp. Will work around it this weekend itself before it gets more annoying.

The wheels are a nice glossy black, and the reasonably new look is going to take some getting used to. Initially I thought they looked out of place for bike as old as 2002, and I was used to seeing dark gray wheels with a bunch of rashes.

Got some pictures for you guys, kindly excuse the picture quality. Will have a camera handy next time around for sure.

                • Thanks Fireblah.
I've ordered the battery from UK. Its an OEM Yuasa replacement, cost me a shade below 5K INR shipped to a friend in London.
